**1st Frimley Green & Mytchet Scout Group Annual General Meetng of the Group Scout Council on 4th July 2026**

ANNUAL REPORT OF THE GROUP TRUSTEE BOARD FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31[st] MARCH, 2026.

After a very demanding year, the Group Trustee Board is pleased to report good progress on several important areas.

In December, we took advantage of the Christmas break to carry out repairs and redecoration work in the main hall. This was the most urgent part of our wider redecoration programme, and it was a real relief to see this work finally completed. Further improvements will continue at a more measured pace.

New purpose-built front gates have now been installed. This was a necessary step ahead of the planned introduction of storage containers. At the same time, two bollards were installed just inside the gates to help protect our minibus and to support a claim made through our new insurer. We are very grateful to S C Johnson, who kindly provided a grant of £1,836 to cover the cost of the bollards.

The installation of storage containers has proved to be the most complex part of our current site improvement programme. The first major task was to obtain planning permission for the container base, and we would again like to recognise the patience and persistence of our Quartermaster, Tim Maynard, in pursuing this important objective. Following the granting of consent, the concrete base previously installed has now been replaced with a tree-friendly alternative. We are now progressing the delivery and installation of suitable containers. Tim has also successfully secured a CIL grant from the Council to help cover the cost of the containers, associated groundworks, and administrative requirements.

In the meantime, Dave Cooper has been progressing the installation of an air-source heat pump to replace our existing gas boiler. In addition, electric hand dryers will be installed in the toilets, and an upgraded electric cooker will be fitted in the kitchen. The design of a suitable system has now been finalised, and a further CIL grant has been secured through Surrey Heath Borough Council. We have again reached the point where installation can now proceed.

As with many other voluntary organisations across the country, recruiting new leaders and helpers’ remains an ongoing challenge for the Group. Additional secretarial support for the Trustee Board would greatly ease the workload on our Group Lead Volunteer, Delwyn. Anyone who would be interested in joining our friendly team in this capacity would be made most welcome.

A. J. Moore - Chairman D. Cooper - Treasurer

## 1. Reserves

Sufficient reserves are needed to maintain our building and grounds in working condition and to provide a buffer against fluctuations in income.

## 2. Risks

The Group is a voluntary organisation run by parents and friends of the Group for the benefit of children. It will only continue to thrive if a sufficient number of parents accept the responsibilities that membership entails.

## 3. Objectives

The objectives of the Group are as a unit of the Scout Association. The aim of the Scout Association is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local national and international communities. The method of achieving the aim of the Association is by providing an enjoyable and attractive scheme of progressive training, based on the Scout Promise and Law and guided by adult leadership.

## 4. Public Benefit

Subscriptions are charged for membership to cover immediate running costs of the Group and these do not unduly restrict membership. The Group follows the principle that no one should be excluded because of their inability to pay membership subscriptions.

Two key principles demonstrate that Scouting's aims are for the public benefit are that through the Scout method young people develop towards their full potential and that there is a clear link between the benefits for young people and the purpose of Scouting. The safety of young people is taken very seriously and the benefits Scouting activities provide far outweigh the risks. Any private benefits from Scouting are incidental, other than to those as a beneficiary.
