Scouts
Well, here l am wrltlng my last report as Sudbury's now Dlstrlrt Lead Volunteer after 13 years as
Deputy and then DC, l am so proud to have been your Distrlct Commlssloner. So much has happened
In the last year, a year ago I touched on our focus on recrultment and l am dellghted to report that
we opened the D15trlct's second Squlrrel Drey at 3 Sudbury last night, my sincere thanks to Caroyln,
Stephen, Carlene and Julle, who made thls posslble and I know all the new
leaders are really exclted to stsrt thelr Scoutlng Journey.

District Chairmans Report
I must mentlon the Sponsored Absell down Long Melford Tower, after
ralsln8 around £16k last May to help ralse money for the Church, we
took to the Tower once agaln In October to rdlse well needed funds for
many Scoutlng projects around Sufft)Ik and Essex, well done to those
who braved the very long dropi Includln8 myself, even ￿th Flul
It's hard to believe it, but I've now had the dlstlnct prlvllege of serving as
Sudbury District Chairman for over seven years. I'd antlcipated this might be
my final report, but it seems you're stuck with me for a bit longer!
It has truly been an honour to get to know so many of you dedlcated
volunteers involved In Scoutlng and to wltness flrsthand the Incredlble
programs you deliver. The past twelve months have brought signlflcant
changes, and it's clear that the pace of evolutlon Isnl slowlng down.
I want to extend a special thank you to Charmaln, who I've had the honor of
working alongside throughout my entire tlme in Scoutlng. Her dedicatlon and
the remarkable work she's done have been truty inspirlng. I'ii always be
grateful to her for Introducing me to thls wonderful Scouting family. While it's
sad to see Charmaln step down from her Dlstrlct role, I'm genulnely excited to
now be working wlth our new Dlstrict Lead Volunteers, Richard and Steve. I've
already enjoyed hearing some of their exciting ideas for driving the Distrlct
forward, ensuring our continued growth and success.

Over the past year, I've been fortunate enough to vlslt many Groups within the

Invaluable experience of joining a Scout section camp, whlch provided a

happen.
I have been very commltted to the new HQ Project at Haverhlll over

In my new role as Team Leader for Growth and development, I have advertised possible
interest for a Squlrrel Drey at Sudbury HQ, there is a demand for a drey in this area as
shown on the census. After a brief conversation with Cathy and Steve at Sudbury, and
checking out availability of HQ a group of us are currently running a trial for four weeks
on Thursdays, 4.30 until 5.30 at Sudbury HQ. two successful weeks so far, and two
volunteers to help/get Involved. 18 childrenl Of course we need more to slgn up and a
commltment for regular helpers as well. So at the end of four weeks we wlll have a
th
parent night hopefully. Charmain on recruitment. I've pencilled in 5 June as "9 May is
district Zoom.
Sudbury District Cub Scouts Annual Report
It's been a relatively quiet year for the Sudbury District Cubs, with only
one major event taking place. Despite this, the year's highlight-a camp
held at HalloWtre￿proVed to be a memorable experience for all
involved, even in the face of challenging weather conditions.
The camp offered Cubs the opportunity to engage in traditional Scouting
activities such as pioneering, tent camping, and enjoying a classic
campfire. In addition to these core experiences, the Cubs took part in a
variety of fun and adventurous activities including grass sledging,
go-karting, and air rifle shooting.
There was also an element of the extraordinary at the camp, as the
Cubs explored magic and circus skills. This culminated in an impressive
magic show and a stunning display of circus performances, which were
greatly enjoyed by everyone.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all who attended and
supported the event, helping to make it a success despite the weather.
A special note of thanks goes to Charmain for her dedicated support
over the past ten years, her contributions have been deeply valued, we
now look forward with anticipation to what the future holds under the
guidance of the new District Leadership Volunteers (DLVS).
Julie Penney has helped with keys and access. Carlene is coming onto the District Team
to support, and we've had a flres/smoores night already with her guldance and
knowledge as a forest school tralned leader. Myself, Steve and Charmaln have also been
In attendance.
There has been a need for me to spend some money to run the nights, for which Bryan
has relmbursed so far. I've recently ordered a parachute as well which will belong to
Sudbury Distrlct. (Charmain approved).
Funding- l am part way through organlzing my normal wheelbarrow raffle at the Long
Melford fete in July. Bottles needed please. A wheelbarrow has been promised. This wlll
go into a District Growth/Squirrels headed column please Bryan once the funds are
raised. Hopefully to purchase a Badge machine for District also.
I've had enquiries about other Squirrel Dreys one possible leader for Bures.
Leavenheath are happy with their current set up at the moment.
Long Melford Squirrels
I helped out once at the beginnlng of the year, and do have some communication with
Sonlc Squirrel (Jonathan) Its my understandlng they still have 18 in attendance. They
need more leaders too . hopefully a report will come from their GLV. They have been
running three years now.
