31st/9th Ipswich (Britannia) Scout Group : Trustee Report

This has been a year of change and growth for the 31st/9th scout group. We have emerged from the Covid years in relatively good shape and with a healthy membership and growing leadership team. Our group now has over 160 young people across our beaver, cub and scout sections, with one beaver colony, three cub packs and one scout troop meeting regularly.

I’d like to take time to welcome and thank all the new leaders who have started with us this year, but as is always the case, we need more. We would particularly welcome more people to help with Beavers and Scouts, so if you might be interested, then have a chat. Volunteering doesn’t need to be a weekly commitment, there are a range of options, so I’m sure we can find one to fit your needs.

Executive Committee The group has an executive committee who work together to make decisions about the overall running of the group. It’s made up of various trustees, section leaders and parent representatives.

I want to thank the committee for their support this year, particularly John, our chairman, and Carolyn our treasurer. If you are interested in helping on the exec, then we are currently in need of a secretary, or if that isn’t your cup of tea, speak to your section leaders about becoming a parent rep.

Works to the Hall This year has seen us work on the surroundings of our hall, improving the water access and block paving around the hut to create a safe and level surface for a fire exit and entrance. Fund raising has geared up again this year, with our highly successful scout post this year being added to with quiz nights and of course our amazing jumble sale which took in over £1000 of fundraising.

We have a small fundraising sub-committee who work on ideas and planning for these events, so if you think you can help, even just on an occasional basis, again speak to myself or Elaine to find out more. Christmas post was, as always, a great success, and I’d like to thank all the group members, parents and young people who gave up their time to help us deliver our cards. We will be looking for volunteers to help next year, and as this is a significant fundraiser for us, all your help is very much appreciated.

We really are one of the best, and the largest groups in the County at the moment, and we couldn’t’ be that way without our amazing team. I’d like to express my sincerest thanks to all the leaders who give up their time and effort to volunteer with our group to give your children the best experiences possible. So, to all the leaders, assistants, sectional assistants, the group exec, the young leaders, helpers and parents, thank you for all your help, and for all out amazing Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, thank you all for helping make it so much fun to be a leader here!
