Introduction to 202212023 Another Successful year for Sussex YFC. We have managed to keep good membership numbers and we are stamping a positive footprint within the South East Area. We have gone from 7's club to 8, which is fantastic, as we celebrate Steyning opening as a Junior club. County Chairman, Leighton Budinger has supported the County and the area incredibly well throughout the year. With Blaise Hughes O'sullivan as his Vice Chair. Hannah Fielding remains in position as County Administrator. Coun Chairman 22123 Vice Chairnian 22123 Supported by." IIUMPTON OLLLGI

Sussex YFC 202212023 Activities Knepp Farn) Estats Tour- 17th September 2022 A few members of Sussex YFC were lucky enough to attend a tour of Knepp Estate. with thanks to Sarah Palmer of NFYFC for arranging, and Russ Carrington. the faryn manager for hosting. The moming started with a brief presentation about the rewilding project, then a tour on foot covering a small portion of the 3000 acres of the estate. Whilst it was highly interesting. and wonderful to see so many rare native species flourishing, there is no way this could be the future of British faming. (especially as their no hedge cutting policy made many of the famers on the tour wince.) However, it wasny supposed to be, with the lessons leamed in the rewikling areas are being applied into their regenerative beef farm. Increased bird and small wildlrfe populations help control the flies. giving the cows a better qualty of life. pigs rooting around and causing soil damage in the rewilding area have taught them not to fear soil disturbance in the winter from cattle on wet ground, as this allows new grovl(h to flourish. Mob grazing practices on rotation allow fields to be grazed for one day at a time, leading to fields being grazed for just 4 days a year. leading lo better grass growth and therefore better-quality beef cattle. There are many lessons to be leamt from the regenerative fami, and l encourage anyone who can to take a tour. Ell1• Belllsio- Chalrman 2021- 2022 Support6dby.' UMPTON COLLLGÉ

South of En and Show- June 2023 As always the South of England show was a highlight of the year. We had some many Counties bringing entries and the stand looked fantastic. We had a wonderful old Tractor on display which attracted many on lookers. we had the tractor pull set up which children loved to get involved with, and of course the Pig Racing. Lots of our members got involved with the stock judging on a very hot day but did brilliantly as v￿11. We were also supported by Plumpton Race Course who lent us a racing hurdle for our display. At the show. County Chainnan Leighton Budinger, VRS awarded the CLA Award. He was invited to the CLA tent for a presentation of trophies to members of the Farming community. Support8d by." Membershi 202212023 We are still getting used to the online system but most members have adapted well to the change. You will see from the chart below that membership has stayed steady, with clubs dropping a few members, however this may due to non-completion of online forms, rather than actually dropping members. We have had a new club this year which is great and we congratulate Steyning on having a really successful first year.
