Occasional bookings also exhibited st.iking diversity. Chlldren's partie5 were thp most popular. fallowed by parties in general 3nd

Perhap5 the mo%t notsble event of the year was the retirement from formal duties of the hall's long-serying
caretdker Tony Bleach MBE. who had vari(wsly ser¥ed as b<KJking se¢ret6ry, cleaner aiid chairman of thp
anagement committee over 3 ￿rIOd exceedin8 50 years. A tommunity pithic and Celebratory tea with1Sve
music was held on the village Breen on Tony's 95th birthday, attended by around 200 people. A coinmemorative
plague wa5 presented to Tony ar>d siibsequently placed in the hall.
The retlrement posed a challenge to the trustees and hastened the hall ￿rther towards the .￿na￿ended"
operating model t4at h3s beeii incre35inBly adopted in recent years. The trustees eschewed the risks inherent in
becDmln£ an èmplDyer and. instead. opted for the booklng secretsry and cleaner to èach slep up to cover some
of the regular tas14s. That both did so Is hugefy to their credrt. ThÉs operating model will need to be kept under
review going forward.
The increasing need for pald help. combined with the fvll impatt of higher energy price5 Ithe hall is all-electricl,
pui preSS￿re Dn the hall'5 operating costs. We holLf adeqvhtè reserve5, but neverthElegs need to balan￿ Income
gainst our operaling costs over the medium term. As a result. knowing ttrsat we remain ¥ery competitlve on
price, the truytees relvrtantly approved a substantial increase in hire fees for 2025126. To.date th15 appoars tts
have been 3bsorbed by hirers withO￿t Imparting the level of bookings.

Councll.
Repairs canied out induded treatment of a lon8Stattdlng damp problem in an internal wall and the repair of a
non-structLJral clack in the external brickwork. A last artion frtsm Our fire risk assessment was Completed with
the sealing of a void in the ceillng of the meter and 5Witchgear cupboard.
The phzsed conversion of 311 lightir)g to LEDS was completed. along wlth f4th.ng anti-tamper s¥4lt£hes to our
storage heaters. These works were funded by a gefterous grant for the proceeds of the Lavaiit Villa8e Fetp. New
blinds were a150 instsllefl iri the Green A(Jom and. currently, determined attempts are being made-LO clear
Iinwanted items Irom the h311 and rationalise stof3Ee to iinprove the user experience.

It has proved intreasingly difficult to attrart new trustees in recent years, even from those user organi5atlons
with the right to rkominate them. Exhortation, advertising in traditional and 50cial media, selective leaflet
droppirkE and personal approaches have all been tried. However, we were success￿1 during the year tn partlv
refreshin£ the m3na8ement team and lowering the average a8e from the previous 79 years. We were pleased to
be ahle to èPP9int a new safeguardlng lead following the earlier resignation of the ir*cumbent froin the
c(>mmittee.
