Chair Report
Welcome to the 74[th] AGM of the Ashington Community Centre Trust.
Whilst a very successful year commercially and contractually for the trust, less so with the sad departure of our previous Chair, Lee English and Treasurer, Neil Pearce.
We are delighted to announce the engagement of Laura White as the Trust Administrative Clerk, who is assisting Margaret Alford our Secretary and Sarah Mansfield-Osborne as our accounts Bookkeeper who has been assisting our stand-in Treasurer John Morris. John has ably and steadfastly managed our accounts since the departure of Neil and shall now relinquish this position to Michelle Simpson.
Derek, our Caretaker and Katie, our cleaner have continued to deliver the highest service offerings to our customers which is reflected in the level of repeat bookings for which we extend our gratitude.
Particular thanks go to Robin Botting and Mark Adsett for all their hard work in keeping our recreation ground and particularly playing fields to such a high standard despite the great usage.
Regrettably, Neville Clarke also decided to stand down from his positions with the Ashington Youth Club and Ashington Community Centre Trust. Neville has made a significant contribution to the facilities team as well as assisting with IT. Our IT support will now be outsourced through Southdown Tech.
With Covid-19 finally behind us a certain normality in our operations returned with steady revenues throughout the year bolstered by regular bookings from new customers such as the NHS Blood Donations.
We have continued to maintain all our premises to high standards with capital works expended on a new Scout Hall roof, replacement hinges to all main hall doors and full electrical compliance tested and certified for another 5 years.
We are delighted that the Chanctonbury Storehouse food bank has taken space within our Main Hall to assist the needy in our local area.
Our current activities are to:
-
Expand the existing car park with the inclusion of a further 9-spaces. Most of the funding is available from unspent Section 106 funds currently held by Horsham District Council. Quotations for the Works have been secured and we anticipate submitting a Planning Application before the end of May 2022.
-
Create a larger office space at 1[st] floor level by utilizing the current unexploited area. The Ashington Parish Church has expressed a need for larger and more permanent office accommodation to service their now greatly increased Parish. The space is currently with the original structural engineers to provide the scope of the necessary alteration works.
-
Refurbish the Pavilion Toilets, showers and changing rooms for use by the resident Cougars football club and the Rovers Club who have expressed a desire to reform and return to Ashington. We are currently in dialogue with The Sussex FA and Football Foundation to secure the appropriate grants. There are also further longterm opportunities with the Sussex FA to assist us with maintenance and improvement of our playing fields.
-
We have engaged the services of Play Safe to inspect and advise on the condition of our play area and have instructed them to carry out any identified essential specialist works in order to maintain compliance of safety regulations.
-
We are seeking to install two Electric Vehicle charging points which Michelle Simpson has thoroughly researched.
-
We are also seeking grants to resurface the Youth Club, Pavilion and Scout Hall car parks which are badly in need of attention.
Our primary objective through the past year has been to focus more on creating a structure that could target more on business development which would introduce us to a wider field by extolling the outstanding facilities we have to offer.
We are sad to lose John Morris as the Parish Council Representative and David Newland who are not seeking re-election
A final thanks to our trustees who donate their personal time to assisting in the maintenance of our valued village assets. The positive state of our buildings and open spaces is a reflection and credit to them all.
Thank you,
John Howie
