## **Structure, Governance and Management**

Alciston & Selmeston Village Hall is a registered charity (Charity No. 305307) governed by a constitution adopted in accordance with the Charities Act. The management of the hall is overseen by trustees supported by committee drawn from the villages in accordance with its constitution who are elected annually at the Annual General Meeting. These committee members work tirelessly in the management, upkeep and safety of the hall and their input is very much appreciated by the community.

## **Objectives and Activities**

The charity’s objective is to provide and maintain a village hall for the benefit of the residents of Alciston and Selmeston and surrounding areas. The hall is used for a variety of community activities including social events, exercise classes, meetings, and private functions.

## **Achievements and Performance**

During the year, the hall continued to serve as a vital community hub. Key achievements included:

- Hosting community events, including coffee mornings, quiz nights and village events.

- Upgrading facilities such as a new audio-video system, lighting and hearing loop and improved heating system.

- Maintaining regular bookings from local groups and private hirers.

Despite challenges such as rising energy costs, the trustees ensured the hall remained financially stable and accessible to all.

Notably, over the year, the charity was generously awarded a National Lottery Grant of £20,000 to support the installation and commissioning of a new audio-video system, lighting and hearing loop and improved heating system,

## **Financial Review**

The charity operates on a receipts and payments basis. Income was generated primarily through hall hire fees, fundraising events, and donations. The trustees are satisfied with the financial position and continue to monitor costs carefully to ensure sustainability.

## **Reserves Policy**

The charity aims to maintain reserves equivalent to at least six months of operating costs to ensure continuity of service in the event of unforeseen circumstances.

## **Future Plans**
