Chair’s Report 2021/22: Charity reg. number: 305266 - Icklesham Trusts Committee

Annual Review: 2021/22 was a successful year for the Trusts. We had strong financial performance. There were high bookings for the hall and two significant and well attended village events, being the Queen’s Jubilee weekend and the Village Fete. A new monthly Produce market is attracting very good support plus we continue to enjoy regular craft markets. There was a rejuvenation of the affiliated clubs ‘post covid’. The Art Group is back to strength, the Horticultural Society had a successful summer show and is attracting new members. A new Youth club is now well established and The Icklesham Pantomime and Drama Society, formed mid-year, has its first performance this coming January. The sports teams are doing well. Football is holding their own in the higher league and Stoolball attracted a record ten teams to its summer tournament. Rye cricket continues to play on the recreation ground. An invitation Icklesham cricket team squared off against the Rye team; generating a lot of fun and a good amount of money raised for St Michael’s Hospice.

The New Pavilion project has been abandoned. After many years of trying to raise funds, the Committee has accepted that the project cannot attract the level of funding needed. The reasons behind this decision have been well documented in various correspondence with the village. The Committee has agreed to support a modest refurbishment of the existing pavilion to improve conditions for the sports teams and make it attractive for some non-sports activities. There will a discussion with members of the committee, including the representatives of the sports clubs in the development of a plan. The agreed plan will be presented to the Parish Council and the village. The Trusts Committee has committed to putting in some funding for the refurbishment, but additional funding will be necessary, and this will have to come from other sources. The monies raised for the New Pavilion project have been ‘ring fenced’, pending a plan being agreed and discussion with the village.

Objectives 2022/23: In the coming year the Trusts Committee will concentrate on maintaining a sound financial position. This includes keeping a reserve to cover expected long-term repairs and maintenance. We will continue upgrading the Hall with the objective of providing an attractive venue that is financially self-sustaining. Where it does not compromise the Trusts finances, the Committee will look to support initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of Icklesham residents. Assuming we can secure the required funds and after consultation with the village, the Committee will refurbish the Pavilion.
