Trustees Annual Report for 2023-24
Carolyn Borthwick presented the Annual Report.
Preschool returned in September 2023 to much higher numbers, with a majority of 3-4 year olds. The numbers continued to grow during the first term and staffing was increased as needed. As the year progressed, additional lunchtime support was added. The books were closed at the February half term for any more new children until September 2024. Some sessions were at 24 children. 20 children left for school at the end of July, leaving rather low numbers to start in September 2024.
Jess and Louise continued with their level 3 training, and Louise completed the course by the end of July 2024. Jess has another few months to go.
Kate registered to do the Early Years Professional Development programme, in January, completing it in July, which saw lots of improvements to the layout of the preschool, and the introduction of new play and learning ideas. Resources were bought where money allowed to support these new ideas.
Kate also did some wellbeing training and now does wellbeing support for the staff.
From September 2024 another new member of staff will be added to the ratios, as Kate and Valentyna choose to drop a day each.
The 5 year fixed electrical test was performed and some remedial works were required and completed during the summer holidays, along with the PAT testing. Minor repairs to the plumbing and guttering were also completed, along with a roof check. The roof is currently sound, but parts of the roof felt are now over 10 -15 years old and replacing it will soon be required.

The outside garden fence was beyond further repair, and quotes were obtained ready to consider replacing it in October 2024.
The new physical equipment grant applications from July 2023 were successful and the new equipment was ordered in September 2023, This was very enthusiastically received by the children and has been in constant daily use since.
Our cleaner, of over 20 years. Viv, sadly decided to hang up her dusters in May and move on to a new career. Flowers and a gift were presented during a small celebratory tea party. A new, young cleaner, Patrick, has been employed and trained up by Viv, and is hardworking and totally reliable. The preschools high standards of cleanliness have been maintained.
The Manager would once again like to express her thanks to all the staff for their continued hard work and support, to Patrick for the early morning cleaning and to Alan for keeping the outside areas tidy and the general repairs up to date, and without whose cheerful support and ability to turn a hand to all the odd jobs, we would be lost.
I would also thank Sandie for helping with the day trips, Sandie and Anita for doing some stay and play sessions to support staff, Sandie and Tracy for tidying and sorting the craft cupboards during the summer holidays again, Lisa for constantly stepping in for emergencies as our bank staff member, Tracy for all her hard work on adminstration and applying for grants etc, and Kathryn for her constant support to me during the year.
