Trustees Annual Report for 2021-22

Carolyn Borthwick presented the Annual Report.

Preschool returned in September 2021 to slightly higher numbers that 2020, as concerns about Covid reduced and parents returned to Preschool

Hayley left as manager on 31[st] October 2021, when Carolyn took over as manager and Kate as Deputy. We welcomed Valentyna to the staff on the 8[th] November, and her imaginative crafts and steady reliability have been a welcome asset.

By the Summer term the sessions were nearly all full, with numbers up to 22-24 children in the mornings. Even with 14 leaving for school, the September 2022 starting figures were looking better than they had for the previous two years.

The small garden space was in desperate need of a makeover, and two grants were received to help facilitate this, £250 from the Jempson foundation and £500 from the Arnold Barker foundation. The rest came from the Repairs budget. In the Summer holidays the sleepers were repositioned along one side of the garden, and then the stones from the playing area were moved over. During the recent Autumn half term the ground was levelled, the bamboo plants moved to one end and the while area turfed. Many thanks to Sandie and Alan the Caretaker for spending hours moving the stones!

A police grant, applied for via PCSO Daryl Holter, for £500 helped purchase the paint and new furnishings for the back room, and this was painted over the summer holidays by Alan. The room is now a lovely fresh space and it is hoped the larger main room can be done next.

Preschool were also very grateful to receive a £1000 from the Battle Muffins, to purchase four replacement ipads for the staff. The previous ones were almost 9 years old and were not able to run the tapestry programme correctly any longer.

All staff attended the Curiosity Approach Conference in June 2022, and returned brimming with ideas and improvements which are still being introduced.

The improvements officer came regularly to support Carolyn in her new role as manager and the audit continues in the Autumn Term.

The Manager would like to express her thanks to all the staff for their continues hard work and support, to Vib for the early morning cleaning and to Alan for keeping the outside areas tidy and the general repairs up to date.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT**

## **TO THE TRUSTEES OF BATTLE PRE-SCHOOL PLAYGROUP**

I report to the trustees on my examination of the financial statements of Battle Pre-School Playgroup (the charity) for the year ended 31 August 2022.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s financial statements carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act. In carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

Your attention is drawn to the fact that the charity has prepared financial statements in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) in preference to the Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice issued on 1 April 2005 which is referred to in the extant regulations but has now been withdrawn.

I understand that this has been done in order for financial statements to provide a true and fair view in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Practice effective for reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2015.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

- 1 accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the 2011 Act; or

- 2 the financial statements do not accord with those records; or

- 3 the financial statements do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the financial statements to be reached.
