Independent Examiner’s Report To the Trustees of Lakenheath Playing Field Association On the Accounts for the Year Ended 31[st] December 2021

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity, set out on pages 2 to 3, for the year ended 31[st] December 2021.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity’s trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that, in any material respect:

Trustees’ Report – 2021

Lakenheath Playing Field Association (LPFA) is a registered charity (#304908), operating in Lakenheath, Suffolk. The LPFA are responsible for the upkeep of two large playing fields, Lakenheath Pavilion, and other facilities such as multi-use games arena and skate park respectively. The LPFA run in accordance with the Trust Deed, agreed with the Charities Commission on 9[th] October 1967.

2021 saw Covid19 restrictions lifted across England which meant a return to ‘normality’, with regard to the use of the Pavilion facility and, therefore, the unrestricted opportunity for private hirings / bookings. This is absolutely vital for the income it produces and, therefore, the continued running of the charity. Bookings for birthday parties, weddings, wakes, etc. have been plentiful (bringing in income for both the hire charge and bar takings), as well as LPFA run events, such as ‘Party on the Pitch’ and ‘Lakenheath Fete’. These serve the joint purpose of entertainment and enjoyment for villagers, and income for the LPFA.

As an organisation most of our financial outgoings consist of charges for the following: business rates, waste removal, electricity, water, maintenance (outdoor and indoor), bar stock and staffing (bar and cleaning). 2no. loans continue to be regularly paid back to Lloyds Bank and private individual Brian Rutterford.

The cost of the aforementioned outgoings is covered mostly from regular hiring agreements, such as from the Lakenheath Cricket Club, Lakenheath Junior Football Club, Lakenheath ‘Little Fishes’ toddler group, Slimming world etc.

As a committee, we hold regular LPFA meetings. These are used to discuss the financial position of the charity and future plans and projects for the playing field as a whole, together with the continued day to day running. Our committee currently consists of 7no. committee members. 2no. of members are trustees: Tracy Whitehand and George Plumb. Chair: Kevin Watts. Vice-chair: Tracy Whitehand. Treasurer (temporary): Terry Ball (with ‘checking’ accountant Graham Lodge). Secretary: George Plumb. Other members: Brian Rutterford, Anita Sutton and Debbie Cohn.

Looking forward to 2022 and beyond, the LPFA is hoping to have some outdoor gym equipment installed on-site. Additionally there are many other potential events proposed, e.g. the Queen’s platinum jubilee.

The LPFA is an established and vibrant charity which, through facing recent challenges of Covid19 and the recent loss of our Chairperson, and rising running costs, has continued to be financially stable while, at the same time, paying off loans. We trustees are confident of the continued success of our charity and our ‘modus operandi’ of providing a much needed facility for the large village of Lakenheath.
