Objectives of the Charity
The charity was formed in 1968 when land was purchased from the Church to be used for sport and recreational purposes for the benefit of residents in the village of Bardwell and thereabouts.
The original facilities were opened to the public in July 1969 and since then improvements have been made on a regular basis. These now comprise of a sports field used for cricket, football, a multi-use games area (MUGA) for tennis, basketball, netball, five-a-side football and children’s playground.
In 2012 a Deed was made with Fields in Trust in commemoration of the Queen’s Jubilee which requires the facility to be used for sport and recreational purposes in perpetuity. It is now called The Queen Elizabeth II Field, Bardwell.
The charity is operated by a management committee that comprises of six members of the public elected each year at the Annual General Meeting and two nominated persons from each of the following organisations : Bardwell Cricket Club, Bardwell Football Club, Bardwell Parish Council, Bardwell CEVC Primary School.
Activity During the Year
The new pavilion completed in 2020 has been a great success with many events held during the year. Bardwell Cricket Club has enjoyed use of the building and been very successful on the field of play.
Fund raising events have started to be held again including a Quiz and a Fireworks Display enjoyed by a large number of people in the community. The Annual Fete in collaboration with the Parish Church and the Primary School was held in June 2022 although Covid_19 prevented it in the previous two years.
