North Petherton Playing Fields Charitable Trust
Chairman’s Annual Report 2019-20
Presented to the Annual General Meeting held on 4[th] October 2021 at the North Petherton Community Centre
The year ended last March was a significant one for the Trust. After several years planning and consultation and, eventually fund raising, we delivered our objective of transforming the Memorial playing fields into the state of the art Memorial Park.
The major development comprised of a wide range of play equipment, a multi purpose sports area, a fitness track and landscaped areas; and we also managed to retain the famous wall.
Obviously a lot of work went into raising the funds for this project, and I am grateful to the project team for all the hard work. I must pay particular regard to Peter Farnell, who, again, was exceptionally generous with his time and talents in successfully applying for over £100,000’s worth of grants. Even so we had to maintain tight control over spending and so I am very appreciative of our contractors, Haggs, for delivering our project on time and within budget.
Unfortunately the opening of the park was delayed by the covid lockdown, but when the public were eventually able to use the facilities earlier this year, our efforts were rewarded a delighted community and, of course, a number of awards.
We cannot rest on our laurels, though, and now must look forward. There is the phase 2 at the Memorial Park, working with the schools and volunteers to create our drama and arts area and to complete the landscaping plans. We must also turn our attention back to Parkersfield and ensure that the facilities there continue to improve.
Finally, a big thankyou to the Members of the Trust, the Clerk and our new Asst. Clerk, for your continuing help and support.
