**NORTH CADBURY VILLAGE HALL and RECREATION GROUND** _Registered Charity No 304592_ _**Chairman: James Watts,**_ Hall Cottage, High Street, N Cadbury, BA22 7DW ## **Trustees’ Annual Report to the Charity Commission – Year ending 31[st] March 2026** The Trustees of North Cadbury Village Hall are dedicated to maintaining and improving the Hall, Reading Room, Recreation Ground, Playing Field and adjoining Hall Cottage to provide facilities and activities for the benefit of the people of North Cadbury and the surrounding area. The Charity is administered by the Village Hall Management Committee (the Trustees) according to a constitution dated 11th February 1985 and the special resolution dated 2[nd] October 2024. Bank accounts are held with Barclays Bank Plc. The 2025-2026 were independently examined by Darrell Chainey. A surplus of £2,330 was made in the financial year, the details of which can be found in our financial report. Our Financial Policy requires a reserve of £10,000 to be held. Our buildings and contents insurers are NFU Mutual. Elections and nominations for the committee took place at the AGM on the 16th of October 2025 and were as follows: Representative of user organisations: North Cadbury Parish Council - John Whitehead North Cadbury Parochial Church Council - James Buxton North Cadbury School PTAFA - Liz Hay-Say North Cadbury Women’s Group - Suzie Morris Cary and Camelot Table Tennis Club - Andrew Moore Camelot Players - Tim Griffey North Cadbury and District Gardening Club - vacancy North Cadbury Tennis Club - vacancy Elected Members: James Watts, Graham Jennings, Esther Watts, Jan Jennings, Ann Cook, Robin Russell, Eve Hanaway, India McLean and Claire Harding. Officers elected from and by the members: Chairman James Watts, Vice-Chairman Graham Jennings, Secretary Ann Cook, Treasurer Andrew Moore, Booking Secretary Esther Watts. The Trustees of North Cadbury Village Hall voluntarily give a lot of their time to maintain the Hall and playing field, which provides a place for local organisations and the community to meet, for social activities, sport and play. The Hall is used as a polling station for local and national elections. We thank North Cadbury and Yarlington Parish Council for their support and for grants provided towards playground maintenance and the upgrade of the audio-visual equipment. Over the last year regular bookings have been made by the Parish Council, Cary and Camelot Table Tennis Club, Gardening Club, Folk Night, Women’s Group, Art Club and Little City. The Hall and Reading Room are also hired for private parties, wakes, talks and other community events. The year April 2025 to March 2026 was a busy year for the committee and community volunteers. Our monthly 200 Club coffee morning continued to be well supported. We thank Liz Hall-Say for organising this for us. It is always a great opportunity to chat with friends and meet newcomers to our community. The 200 Club members support our fundraising through their lottery number. Film nights took place during the autumn and winter months, showing a variety of films. In May 2025, the community was invited to celebrate the 80[th] anniversary of VE Day with a picnic. All ages joined in the fun and we thank those who brought along a jeep and other items of historical interest. The annual Harvest Lunch, organised with St Michael’s Church, was well supported and we thank everyone who donated the food for all to enjoy without charge. ‘Rockin the Joint’ band and dance night was held in September. Quiz nights, held in October and March were well attended and we are very grateful to Jo Hoarsman for taking on the role of Quizmaster Camelot Players put on a very successful performances of Mother Goose in December. They raised £2691.83 for Hall funds. The Trustees thank everyone who has been involved in these productions. It should be noted that all ages were able to take part in the pantomime, aided by Tim Griffey who had been providing drama sessions at North Cadbury Primary School. January 2026 brought ‘The BA22’s’, local musicians and singers, to our stage to entertain and to use of the newly purchased audio equipment. The closure of ‘The Catash Inn’ at the start of 2026 left a social gap in our community. The committee decided to organise POP-UP PUB NIGHTS to enable folks to meet friends and neighbours, enjoy board games and have a drink from the bar. The community was grateful for this provision. Our Pancake evening was enjoyed by the community and we thank Liz Hall-Say and her team of pancake flippers for providing a good supply of pancakes to fill us up before we moved into Lent. Fundraising and grants enabled us to purchase audio equipment, upgrade our projector and move the screen to the front of the proscenium arch. We also intend to upgrade lighting and paint the hall in 2026. The Hall Trustees are responsible for maintenance of the playing field, the play equipment and the trees on site. Checks are made on the trees by tree surgeons and the grass cut regularly. We thank Brian Morris for leading the team of volunteers up until October 2025. These volunteers repair and repaint the play equipment. ## Hall Cottage The Trustees are also responsible for maintaining the Hall Cottage, which is Grade II Star listed so presents challenges when considering the required work and maintaining the thatched roof. Over the year redecoration has been done in the dining room, living room and a bedroom, re-carpeting of bedroom one and the five-year electrical check completed. I would like to thank all our community volunteers for their work and efforts over the year. To my fellow Trustees, I say thank you for your support and giving generously of your time so the community can benefit from this hall and playing field. 2025/26 was a very busy year but also a very rewarding period and the community has continued to benefit from your efforts since April.
