- DRAYTON VILLAGE HALL AGM WEDNESDAY 28[TH] JULY, 2021
FINANCIAL REPORT FOR YEAR 1[ST] APRIL 2020 - 31[st] MARCH 2021
The past year has been an extremely difficult one for the Village hall owing to the Covid 19 pandemic and the accompanying Government restrictions affecting the opening of the Hall and persons mixing & socialising with one another. We had to close down the Hall in mid March 2020 & did not open again until September 1[st] . Unfortunately only two of our regular Hirers returned at this time, namely Upholstery and Drayton Market. Other regular Hirers such as the Tuesday Women’s Group, Drayton Men’s Group, Senior Citzs and Pilates chose to delay coming back as many of their members were still self- isolating or were reluctant to socialise indoors whilst the virus was still around . We were obliged to shut down the Hall again at the end of November due to further restrictions being imposed . The Hall then remained shut until mid July 2021.
As to be expected, the closures had a significant impact on the amount we received in Hire charges which were down from £5,653.86 last year to £1,395 for this year. In turn, all Expense categories were significantly lower than last year with the exception of the Equipment section. An agreement was made between the Village Hall Committee and Drayton Street Fair committee to purchase a new Defibrillator. As the nominated Host, the Village Hall initially paid the total cost of £2,200 for the machine & subsequently received a donation of £1,100 from the Street Fair. After somewhat lengthy and difficult negotiations with the Parish Council, they donated £1,765 towards the cost of the Defibrillator.
Just under £500 was spent purchasing PPE , sanitiser units , large quantities of Sanitiser gel specialised cleaning products, posters etc to ensure that the Hall was kept ‘Covid Secure’ whilst it was open for use. In addition to this cost, we also engaged a new cleaner, namely Karen Wallbutton , to manage the extra cleaning required. during the Pandemic . Fortunately for us, Karen lived next door to the hall and was able to be very flexible in both the hours and times she worked .
The only positive outcome from the Covid 19 Pandemic was that we received 9 separate Covid Assistance Grants, totalling £20,674 from Somerset District Council. This very large additional income has put the Village Hall finances in the best position than they have ever been . We will now be able to completely fund several major Maintenance & Restoration projects ourselves instead of having to apply for outside Grants and wait many months to receive monies before being able to commence the required work on the building .
