ANNUAL REPORT MARCH 2025- 2026 Barton St David Willage Hall and Playlng Field Chartty manages the Willage Hall. Playing Field and Dlamond Jubilee Wood. The village Hall and the land on which it is situated was purchased in 1953. The Playing Fleld was purchased by the Parish Council from Somerset County Council in 1977 to provlde communty facilltles forthe village. The thretracre field on which the Dlamond Jubllee Wood Is sltuated was donated to the village in 2013. Management of Barton St Davld Vlllage Hall and Playln8 Fleld Charltyls provlded by a Committee made up of Trustees. Withln the playln8 field Is an all-weather tennSs court, a children's playground and some adult exerdse equlpmenL The field can be set up for crickeL Junlor football and croquet. The Dlamond Jubilee Wood Is reached vla a path that runs up the slde of the Churchyard. The CommSttee is responsible for the malntenance and Improvement of the Vllla8e Hall, Playin8 Fleld and Dlamond Jubllee Wood and to encourd8e their use by the local communlty. The costs are met from the proceeds of the Caml4rdl, hall and playln8 field hlre charges, tenn15 dub membershlp fees and social events. Expenses incurred by the Diamond Jubilee Wood are covered by a generous annual donatlon. Our annual Carnival raised the ma8nificent sum of £8,728 and after costs gave us Just short of £7,1XQ. These funds are vital to continue improvin8 our villa8e faalitles. Sheep racing and a Spirfire fly over were two of many mernorable attractions. The scouts ran a very successful tearoom. raising some much rded funds for themselves and the village hall. Our thanks to Ed Powell. Carnlval Chalrman and all the team for thelr hard work throu8hout the year to put on suth a great dav.
This year, the Treasurer ha5 fonnalised our legal position in regard to the Willage Hall and the Diamond Jubilee Wood. A resolution was passed on the Diamond Jubilee Wood ensuring the Parlsh Council are Custodian Twstees and registering it at the Land Registry. The Sollcitorfs cost of £1,687 was kindly met by the Parish Council. The Village Hall paid the £1,431 cost of registering the Willa8e Hall with the Land Regbstry with the Parish Council named as Custodian Trustee. The heavy rdins of last winter caused the Willage Hall flat roof to leak, so the roof was replaced at cost of £6,6LKI mostly funded by the Parish Council. For the last couple of years, we have been setting aside an amount each year to 80 toward future lar8e bills. The chan8ln8 room's hot water system and tanks have been replaced at the cost of £2,758.56. Our Vice Chair. Peter Farrant. did all the work whl¢h made this posslble to afford. Both changin8 rooms were painted and. with a grant of £725.58 secured from the Somerset Communlties Fund. lockers were purchased and installed. A new gazebo was purchased for the Carnlval at £1,442 which replaced one of the elderly tents. The chlldren's playground has an annual Inspectlon. Thls year it was suggested we replace mattlng under 50rne of the play equlpment and made some repairs to the Cup and Saucer which c05t £2,833.20. Approximately 80% of this cost was c(Nered from funds previously put aside for the upkeep of the play equlpment. The Vlllage Hall Committee work tlrelessly to ensure the hall, playln8 fleld and Dlamond Jubllee Wood are key assets at the heart of the communty. The followlng shows how well the faalitles SUPPOrt a broad rnnge of organisations and 8roups covÈrlng all ages: The Hall: Ber$, Cubs and Scouts meet every Tuesday during term time ¢overin8 all sorts of excltln8 and chararter bullding actlvities. The older Explorers use the hall a couple of evenings a month wlth some workln8 towards thelr Duke of Edinburgh award. Chlldren's Yoga every Frlday afternoon. To develop strength, flexlblllty and balance for 5- 11 vear olds. Hlstory Club have fasdnatln8 lectures once a month for most of the year. Keinton Mandeville and District Women's Institute meet once a month for a wide range of Interesfjng actlvStle& There are four sesslons of Pllates durln8 the day and a Dan Exercise sesslon several evenlngs a month for those that want to keep fiL Demand for Table Tennls has been increaslng so rapldty that they have purchased a thlrd table. Fom7al and Infornial meetings are booked along wlth private partfes and celebrdtions. We have a busy calendar of events happening In the Vlllage Hall. However, there are stlll some slots avallable to hire. The Playlng Held: Cary Valley Croquet aub hire our court forthe sea50n. Village croquet players play on Tuesday w&ither permitting. Asplrln8 footballers Use the recently acquired five-a-side 8oals. A hard tennis court is a great asset for such a small village. Adult keep lit fanatics can use the outdoor exercise maChIrs.
Toddler5 and youngsters have access to a brilliant playground. The Dlamond Jubllee Wood: We are delighted to report that the wldfiowers are establlshing themselves well in the meadow area. This is the result of several years of being mown in the spring and early autumn, the haytaken off and wildflowerseed sown. Highlights include pyramidal orchids. fritillaries as well as useful specles Ilke yellow rattle to supre55 dominant grass specles. Insect lrfe is thriving in the biodtverse environment that is developing. To maintain safety for walkers, a couple of potentially dangerous trees were felled on the track leading to the Diamond Jubilee Wood this year. The Breadstone Garden Opening in June raised an amazing £625.80. Ourthanks to the Gosdens for inviting us Into thelr lovely garden. We were very grateful to Trevor Ryder. from Kelnton Mandeville, who klndly provlded the accompaniment on his Celtic Bouzouki at our annual Carols an)und the Chrlstmas tree. During the autumn we had an approach from a football club to use our pitch and changlng rooms. Whlle this venture didn't eventually take off. we have ended up with mh imprtr4ed changlng rooms. The Dorset and Somerset Alr Ambulance Charity now have a clothlng donation bank In the Vlllage Hall car park.
