During the pandemic working parties at the Loch were curtailed, and the abnormally hot and dry summer in 2022 created numerous issues around maintaining water quality and weed control in the Loch. In Autumn 2022, after a major program of weed removal, we added calcium carbonate and special beneficial bacteria to the water, and we hope this will pay dividends this year in our battle against the seasonal weed. We have also added Dyofix Blue to the water to help reduce photosynthesis in unwanted plants.
In early 2022 Breckland District Council published their vision for developing the market towns and this included ideas for Loch Neaton. We felt some of these were impractical but working with councillors from WTC and officers from BDC we created a revised vision for how Loch Neaton could be enhanced.
One of the ideas was to create a new boardwalk parallel with the railway embankment so that those with mobility issues could utilise this path and we are pleased to say BDC provided us in March with £30,000 to build this new boardwalk and related infrastructure.

## **Loch Neaton Recreation Ground**
The main walkway was opened in time for Easter, and we are continuing to add additional features.
We have also started rebuilding some of the fishing platforms around the Loch and this will be completed shortly.
Many visitors will recall we moved the beacon last year and lit it both for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and for Midsummer eve. We will be lighting the beacon again on 6[th] May for the Coronation.
Lighting the beacon has proved really popular and we will endeavour to light it for all major occasions.
Our volunteers haven’t forgotten the other work that is necessary at the Loch and have been hard at work clearing undergrowth, tidying flowerbeds and planting new shrubs.
Last but not least, we received funding of £500 from Tesco to build a stepping stone Hare and Barrell maze on the upper picnic area and this will be completed in November 23.
## **Accounts**
The charity is in a healthy position. This financial year the figures are distorted by the large grant agreed by Breckland District Council (£30,000) that was handled by way of an invoice to the council based on an agreed contract to construct the boardwalk.
Note: Not all expenditure had been completed as at March 31[st] and additional costs were incurred in the 23/24 financial year. The boardwalk was completed in April on time and on budget.

As requested, I have today carried out an examination of the accounts for the above charity
for the Financial Year 2022/23. The chartty is using a recognised commercial accounts
packa8e. ZOHO Books, which produces a number of reports ir)cluding a detailed General
Ledger and Trial Balance. I was glven access to the system to view both on-line and printed
versions of the reports and compared them to:

From my examination of the ZOHO Books electronic and printed records, I can say that the
reports provided are an accurate record of the Charlws flnanclal posltlon. There are no
dlscrepancles when comparlng bank records wlth suppller bllls recelved. Restrlcted funds
are correctly and clearly identified in the accounts.
Comments
The accounts for thls period reflect a large grant from Breckland Distrlct Councll to fund the
construction of a Boardwalk alongside the Loch and the and the large "Repairs and
Maintenance" expenditure is for thi5 work. A second grant of £500 was made by Tesco for
the creation of a "Hare Footpath Maze" which has yet to be built. This 8rant was restricted
and is shown in the Restrirted Funds account along with interest accrued. This level of
income and expenditure wlll be unique to the financial year in question.
