OBJECTS, ORGANISATION AND ACTIVITIES
The Charity is established to promote the benefits of the inhabitants of the areas of Gaywood, Fairstead and the surrounding district without any distinction of sex, race, colour, political, religious or other opinions, by associating the Local Authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants, in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interest of the social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.

gaywoodcommunitycentre@gmail. com Mob: 07834 700285 2021 has again been a very difficult year due to the COVID19 virus pandemic. We have had a better use at ‘The Centre’ except between Government ‘shutdowns’; however, we have had to spend monies on COVID19 safe equipment, as we bought the fogging machine last year we have only had to buy antibacterial gel, masks and gloves, to enable our staff and hirers to ensure personal safety during this period and although this has all been a struggle, through this we have gained a lot more dance groups covering a variety of ages.
Although for some of the year we were ordered by the government to be closed and to all go into ‘lockdown’, in between these times we managed to turn a negative into a positive and use the closure to go ahead with the maintenance required for the year as best we could with what monies we had available.
In 2021 the most significant works the Committee managed to get carried out, was the main building area of the Centre, the reception area looked very shabby this has now been boarded plastered and painted and now gives the hall a more aesthetically pleasing look. The main kitchen in the main hall has now been redecorated, after the building’s were rewired holes had been left where the old electrics had been removed this has all been filled, plastered and repainted.
REVIEW OF PROGRESS AND ACHIEVEMENT IN 2021 (CONT)
The stage in the main hall was unsafe throughout the middle area, this has now been rebuilt and painted to a more modern look and can now be used by the hirers to carry out performances etc.
All doors have now been replaced with all surrounds repaired and varnished and we now have ensured we have fire doors in all the correct areas.
Behind the bar we had a storeroom that was a jumbled mess this has now been lined with solid wood fixed shelving and can now be used as a bar cellar, it has proved its worth as we don’t now have to lug boxes of beer about to search for a particular product as its all on view for selection.
As a committee we all decided that now the hall was looking better and safer we wanted to start giving back to the community this was the biggest expense we had in 2020, we decided the one thing we could purchase that would benefit the

youngster especially (those that were hanging around the hall causing vandalism) but that would also benefit the adult and elderly community was the installation of a ‘Fresh Air Fitness Outdoor Gym’ We had this installed outside the building for all of the members of the community and has proved very positive especially as we have CCTV permanently directed on the equipment and spot lights for the early darkening nights this makes everyone including the parents of children feel much safer in the area.
PLANS FOR 2022
In 2022 the Committee would like to see the following repairs carried out, however, at this time, the future is uncertain due to COVID-19 so we are not expecting much.
The Main Hall is the most used room in the building and when we took over as a committee in 2018 we only had this area ‘touched up’ to enable immediate use. In 2022 we would like to get the Main Hall completely revamped (redecorated, air conditioning units, stage area upgraded), as this is our biggest hire income area but we know this is going to cost an awful lot of money so we will try to gain funding for this.
The toilets also need a refurbish as again we made do with these and just repainted in 2018; we now need to totally replace the actual toilets and urinals.
We would dearly like to replace all the chairs (around 200), as they are becoming unsafe and look very tatty. We bought some new tables in 2018 but feel we could ideally do with another 10 plus a holding trolley. This was something we had wanted to do in 2020 but with very little money coming into the hall we couldn’t justify this expense.
PLANS FOR 2022 (CONT)
The area immediately outside the Community Centre slopes toward the building and is gravelled to an extent. This isn’t very suitable for disabled access and also tends to hold water in heavy rain as the ground is now compacted and the water doesn’t drain affectively. We would like this area assessed and replaced with new ground cover that is more suited to the area.

When the building was upgraded with cladding, it unfortunately showed large areas around the bottom of the building at ground level, that are unlevel and need a base. Again, this is something that we plan to correct and will look for funding where possible.
As we had the outside exercise equipment put up outside last year for the community in 2022 we would like to gain a grant to be able to install a playground for the younger children, with the hall situated in such a beautiful area it would be an ideal addition.
In 2022 the Committee are hoping to have the back rooms totally renovated and converted into a conference room and coffee shop, we feel this would go hand in hand with the children’s play areas and the children’s groups that hire the hall and will encourage the community to use the area and get outside in the fresh air after the last few years of being shut up with COVID 19 restrictions.
The Charity acknowledges the invaluable help of our Management Committee and all volunteers that help run the Community Centre and have given their spare time to help with the refurbishment.
