AGM 27
Thank you so much all for coming. In particular. It's good to see Phil. Jlll & rim from the Dlstrlct-
thanks foryour support. I'll try and keep thls short so we can get to the burger and beer...
Thls Is my flrst AGM as chalr; I've been chalr of trustees for l year now. We stlll are a commlttee of
parents and volunteers; It's Just that some of us are also now formal trustees of the charfty whlch Is
13th Twlckenham Scout Group.
Any*vay, as Sarah has Just outllned, It's been an eventful year In partlcular for our thlldren, our lucky
Beavers Cubs & Scouts have had a fantastlcally busy tlme on what feels Ilke more weekend events
and camps and speclal badges and experlences In a year than I remember slnce our famlly Jolned thls
group 5 years ago.
On the trustee I commlttee slde, for a good part of thls past year, we have been ensurlng we
understand our role as trustees under the new structure, and we have the approprfate pollcles,
80vemance and tralnln8 In place as a group.
Looklng at our assets, we scrapped the old mlnlbus - as It was becomlng not Just Increaslngly
expenslve to servlce and MOT each year, but also was not ULEZ compllant, so we would have to pay
ULEZ charges to drlve It each tlme we took It out. we declded It would be more cost-effectlve to hlre
vans as & when requlred, The mlnlbus has gone on to have a second lease of Ilfe workln8 In charlty
rellef In Ukralne.
The Fundralslng and Soclal group has been busy: we had an afternoon tea In October to help connect
wlth member5 of the wlder scout communlty, and thls was a great chance for some of the scouts to
show off thelr cooklng prowess and earn a badge.
We had the Charlty 8lngo nl8ht In December whlch ralsed funds ft>r Shootln8 Star Hosplce Sn
Hampton, our chosen charlty for thls year.
Then we had the Horse raclng nl8ht In January, always hIgh￿Ctane fun watchln8 the races unfold on
the blg screen, almost as good as goln8 to Royal Ascot- and at Ascot you don't get the fantastfc
baked potatoes and chllll...
The Famlly Camp In the May bank hollday was a Breat chance for some of us to soclallse a blt more
as a 8foup• In partlcular the parents.
Then, later In May we had the Rlchmond May Falr on the Green, whlch was a great fun but very busy
day. We were lucky wlth the weather, and so Increased our sausage order Shortly before the falr to
over 700 boerewors sausages. all of whlch sold out by 3.30. We ralsed almost £51JOO net for the
group, whlch Is an outstandlng amount, so thank you very much in partlcular to all who came and
helped wlth thls.
Looklng fonvard, we're In a healthy finandal sltuatlon and have a number of capltal projects planned,
from re.setting the fla8Stones by the gara8es, tldylng up the drlveway to hopefully get It looklng a blt
more natural wlth some grass Involved, but stlll able to park cars there, fixlng the perlmeter fencing
and malntalnlng the gutterln8 on the hut.

I'm forever grateful to the work that Maggie, Flona and the prevlous commlttee team dld, to set us
up so well over the past decade.
But a particular thank you to the trustees and parent volunteers on the present commlttee: Davld, Jo.
aalre, Anna, Klm, & Toby- for all your help and hard work
And most of all. thank you to the leaders wlthout whom none of this could happen: Annabelle,
Michel, Graham, Jonathan, Allan. Suman, Leo. and of course 5arah- all of whom volunteer huge
amounts of their time and effort each week, entlrely for free, to educate entertaln and amaze our
chlldren and help them develop new skllls and grow Into better humans. Thank you also to Dave- Mr
Baloo- our quartermaster who looks after all our group equlpment and does $0 much behlnd the
scenes. As well as Davld - Mr Keeo- who does much more than hls role as treasurer, helplng out at
camps and falrs and In lots of ways- suth as helplng set the agenda and prlntlng out all the minutes
for tonigh. And not forgettlng our young leaders, Isla, Tessa, Issy, Josh, Lewls, Ollver, Freya and Charlie
- who also do great work helplng out at the weekly meetings, and perhaps some of whom may be
able to stsy on as adult leaders here or In another scout group In the futurel
I'd like to end with a reflectlon. It feels Itke I￿e only been In thls group a short whlle slnce my son
Rowan Jolned, but already he's In scouts and Bethany's aboutto move up to cubs- so we're over
halfway through our Journey. our time as parents Involved In thls group feels qulte short. As such,
Scout groups have a very hlgh attrltlon rdte of parents whose chlldren grow oirt of the group, and are
always on the lookout for more volunteers. If you'd Ilke to get Involved, you don't have to be a
trustee- you're always welcome to volunteer In whatever way Is best for you and for however lon8
you can spare. whether that's helping out w5th premises management, organlslng fundralslng
actlvltles or even Just volunteerlng for a shift, or helplng to organlse soclal events. If you'd like to be
Involved we'd love to be in touch. please come approach one of us afterward&
And longer term. If you are Interested in maklng a really bl8 Impart, I'm sure Sarah would say the
same goes for helplng out wlth the section leaders - If any of you feel Insplred by the work that the
leaders do, or know of anybody who might be. please also get In touth. The Scoutlng organlsatlon Is
looking to promote flexlble leadershlp volunteerlng as an optlon. for example sharing volunteering
wlth another person on alternate weeks if that can work wlth the section leaders, $0 It wasn't so
much of a time commitment- basically If leadership Is somethlng you're Interested In but you're not
sure Just yet about the level of commitment, please let Sarah or one of the other leaders know, I'm
sure they'd love to hear from you. even if It's not practlcal rfght now but something to keep in mind
for the future.
Thanks for Ilstenlng to my soapbox moment. I didn* really know how to end the speech, but l Just
wanted to thank our leaders again and I've got you all. and the young leader5 who are here, a little
somethlng to show our appreclation, I wondered If I could ask the glrls to hand these out

Scouts
Our Beaver Colony is still thriving with a good mix of boys and girls. and has been very busy
since last's year's AGM.
In October the Beavers took part in the t)istrict Beaver Outdoor Challenge Funday where they
were divided into eight groups and moved around different bases where they rnde bird
feeders, did some mini pioneering, made and followed trails. built dens. cooked pancakes, played
wide games based on f irst aid and learnt the green cross code. A great time was had by all.
Some of the eldest Beavers then stayed on for a District sleepover and some others came back
on the Sunday for the District Adventure Day where they tried out lots of the onsite activities
such as archery, crate stacking, the maze and ni9ht line.
In November the Beavers enioyed taking part in the Remembrance Day Parade in Teddington
and looked very smart paradin9 down the high street to the war memorial.
In December we held a Christmas sleepover with our Cubs at I Whitton's Headquarters. First
of all, we filled up two minibuses and a couple of cars and went to visit Santa at the Woking
Miniature railway where the Beavers enjoyed a train ride and met Santa who gave them a
Christmas present each. We had lots of fun and saw other Cubs and Beavers f rom our District.
When we arrived back at the scout hut. we did some Christmas craft activities including
decorating Christmas stockings in the hope that the Beavers might get a special visitor during
the night! After a very nice f ish and chip dinner. the Beavers went out on a torch walk to look
at how the local houses had been decorated with Christmas lights. We then had a movie night
where they watched 'Arthur Christmas" and enjoyed popcorn before getting ready for bed. The
Beavers must have all slept well because durirg the night Father Christmas visited and filled up
their stockin9S With lots of goodies Includi￿ a camp blanket for the Beavers that were on their
f irst sleepover that had been embroidered with their rnmes and even had a few badges sewn on
and camp t-shirt for those that had been on a sleepover before. On Sunday mornin9 after
breakfast, they f inished their Christmas decorations, and played some Christmas games before
going home.
In January our Beavers attended the District Beaver New Year Party where over 190 Beavers
played party games, decorated their own wind sock and were taught some circus skills by Lucas
Jet. They then all had a snack bef ore watchirg Lucas Jefs circus show that was 9reat fu
In March we joined the District Beavers at a very successful District Disabilities Awareness
badge workshop at 3rd Hampton's HQ. The Beavers moved around different bases where they
learnt some Makaton sign language and how to write their Mmes in Braille. They also played blind
football and listened to a talk about the different aids that are available to help people with

disabilities and got to try crutches, a walkin9 f rame and a wheelchair. The Beavers had also all
made amazing posters about Paralympians.
We've also visited Twickenham Library where they all had a great time and learnt how to be a
librarian and how to take care of b(￿kS and all gained their book readers badge.
In May many of our Beavers and their families attended our group family camp that was held
over the f irst Bank Holiday weekend at Phasels Wood camp site. They all enioyed takin9 part in
lots of the onsite activities as well as some VE day craft activities. backwoods cookirrfj and den
building. The Beavers and their families all seemed to have lots of fun.
We took part in the District Air Activities Badge at Brooklands Museum where they enjoyed
learnin9 about lots of different air craft and f illin9 in their activity booklets. The Beavers that
attended gained their Air Activity Bad9e.
In June we took part in a county outing to Gilwell Park Funday which wos very exciting for the
Beavers as many of them had not been on a coach before. Our District took f ive coaches full of
Beavers and Cubs. They had a great time playiThJ on the inf latable's, playin9 drums and 90in9 down
the hill on sledges, looking at some birds of prey and they all enjoyed an ice cream before coming
home.
Over the last year the Beavers have earned lots of activity badges and nine Beavers successfully
completed their Chief Scout Bronze Award. Well Done!
After the meetin9 please have look at the Beaver notice board where we have lots of photos of
all the great thin9s we have done this year.
Finally, on behalf of all the Beavers and myself, I would like to thank my team rnembers Jonathan
(Malak). Annabelle (Baloo), Alan (Kaa) and our youThJ leaders Isla. Tessa. Issy and Josh because
without their help we wouldn't be oble to provide the Beavers with as many fun and exciting
activities.

l am delighted to report that the Cub Scout section is thriving, and running at
full capacity with quite a few children on the waiting list.
We have had a very full and exciting time with the Cubs taking part in lots of
different activities, Borough Camp, Cubs Cause Chaos Camp, Church Parade,
st
Remembrance Sunday Parade and service in Teddington (I time), Christingle,
fund raising, Christmas sleepover, Winter Camp at Walton Firs, Family Camp and
the Beaver and Cub Fun Day at Gilwell Park, gaining various badges and awards
along the way! These include the Artist, Physical Recreation, Athletics, Money
Skills, Chef, Backwoods Cooking, Road Safety and Nights Away. Some of the
Cubs have gained the Snow Sports l and 2 Staged badges. Several Cubs have
also earned the Silver Scout Award, of which we're all very proud.
Last September, for the first time, the Cubs joined up with another group, 2
Teddington, and went to Cubs Cause Chaos Campl l The name of the camp was
very apt! It was fantastic to see the Cubs joining in with another group, making
friends, helping each other out and having a great time! They had a disco one
night, and a film night with popcorn and candy floss another eveningl They took
part in lots of challenging activities, climbing, zip wire, and the assault course to
name but a few. We also joined up with 2. Teddington for a Winter Camp at
Walton Firs. Again this was a first for the Cubs, and they stayed in rather cosy
Pods sleeping on bunk beds rather than in a tent! It was very cold at night and
we had thick frost on the ground in the morning. The clear sky at night meant
we were able to do some fantastic star gazing, wow, what a treatl
nd
The Cubs and Beavers took part in a joint sleepover again last December which
was a great success! And has now become an annual event with much
anticipation from the Cubs and Beavers. We went to Woking where the children
enjoyed the train ride to visit Santa in his grotto, where they met him and his
special helpers and received a lovely Christmas gift. The weather was kind to us
on this occasion and a good time was had by alll The Cubs and Beavers made
lots of Christmas goodies and decorations to take home (glitter everywhere! !).
They went on a night walk with torches to look at the lights and decorations in
the local vicinity, had a fish and chip supper, watched a film and had popcorn.

Father Christmas even paid a visit and all the children had a fab stocking each!
How lucky, Santa twice in one dayl! The Christmas sleepover is a great
introduction for the younger Scouts to have an away from home experience to
gently lead them in to when they go on school journeys, or when they start to
come camping in Cubs. Talking of which, 14 Cubs are coming to Borough Camp
in July; they will be putting up tents and taking part in lots of different activities,
from tackling the assault course, low ropes, finding their way out of the maze,
and of course joining in the team competitions, the tug of war, rounders, and
footballl All very excitingl We are all looking forward to it. And 9 Cubs will be
attending the District"Happy Birthday Camp" in August.
This coming Saturday, 13 Cubs are taking part in the Science Badge, which will
be great fun.
I hope that this gives you a flavour of what Cub Scouts is all about and the variety
of activities we try to do to encourage all young people to be the best they can
Last but not least, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who
has helped me at the meetings each week, at Camp or on other activities, as
without them it would not be possible. The Hugest of thanks go to Sarah
Kershaw (Keeo) for her constant support every week, Daniel, and our latest
addition to the leadership team, Alan Stacey . In addition, Huge thanks to our
Young Leaders, Freya, who is helping whilst doing her Silver D of E Award, and
Lewis and Oliver, who are doing their Bronze D of E Award. Also, not forgetting
Dave Gibson (Mr Baloo), David Kershaw (Mr Keeo) and all parent helpers who
have jumped in to help when asked. To say 'Thank you,, for all their hard work
and commitment does not seem to be enough, but they are 2 small words that
have the biggest meaning and are said with my most heartfelt gratitude.
Stay safe and keep Scouting! !

13 Twlckenham Scout Troop Report
AGM 27th June 2025
Scouts
Scouts
We currently have a full, diverse and homogeneous Troop, with an active
waiting list. It has both been sad and a proud moment to see our older members
move to the Explorer Scout Section as well as excitedly welcoming new Troop
Members from the Cub section.
The past year has seen the Scouts learning and developing through fun and
stimulating activities both on Troop nights and week*nd events.
From guest presentations from our local MP (brave lady) to Thames Water
explaining the need and technology used for the new water extraction
pipe/sewer, who knew our Scout H.Q was built on what used to be a seabed as
evidenced by the sea shells obtained from the bore hole in the grounds? The
team have delivered varied regular evening activities helping our young people
to develop their mental, physical and moral skills. Some highlights include the
shooting practice/competition, rock climbin& fire lighting (what Scout doesn't
like a fire?), tent pitchin& cooking, team activitles and local exploration. Sadly
the Troop was unable to secure a place at the February freezer camp this year
desplte trying 10 minutes after bookings opened ! But we did take part in the
ever popular and enjoyable Monopoly run with one team managing to visit
every property on the board and winning their game by a considerable margin.
Camping featured in our week-end activities of course with Borough camp,
summer camp (Come to Tolmers), Family Camp and Water week-end being
enjoyed by all.
I have to take this opportunity to reinforce the message that all this couldn't
take place without the multitude of volunteers that form part of the Troop
volunteer team. Particular thanks to Sarah, Suman, Graham (our newest Leader
who has returned to the Group from his previous stint as a Cub Leader), Léo and
our ever present and enthusiastic young Leaders, Freya, tharlie & Xavier. It is
not only the Leaders who deserve thanks but also our Group Quartermaster
David G. , Treasurer David K. and the Trustees for ensuring we have a roof over
our heads and the equipment we need. Last but not least thank you to the
parents for entrusting their children to us and giving us the opportunity to stay
young and impart our Scouting skills and values onto them.
Yours In Scoutin&
Michel.
