Th¢ Scout Group is a trust athninistered under the rnles whtch are common to all Scout
A$S￿l2t10n Groups. Group Trustees are ap￿inted in accordance with the Policy*
Organisation & Rules of the So)ut A&8(Ki*io
The Group is managed by the Board of Tn￿tees. The Board currently LX)nsists of 3
independent representatives, Chair, Treasurer. the Group L￿1 Volunteer. and 4 other
elected trustees and meets once a month.
The Board exists to supwtrrt the Group Le*1 Volunteer in meeting the resw)nsibilities
of the appointment and is reskK)nsible for.
the maintenancc of Group property.
the raising of funds and administration of Group finance.
the insurance of persons, property and equipment.
Group public occasions.
assisting in the recruitment of leadern and othff aduh support.
appK)inting any subwmmittees that may be required.
appointin8 Group thinistrators and advisors other than those who are
elected.
The Group has in place systems of internal Control that are designed to provide
reasonable assurance against rnaterial mismana8¢m¢nt or loss. These include two
signatories for all payments and rA)mprehensiv¢ insurance policies.
The objectives of the Group are &$ a unit ofthe So)ut ASS￿latIOn.
The aim of the Scout Association is to promote the development of young people in
achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals,
as responsible citizens and as members of their national and international communities.
The method of achieving this is by providing an enjoyable and attractive scheme of
progressive trainin8. based on the Swut Promise and IAW and guided by adult
leadership.

. MAJOR ACllVITIES & ACHtEVEMEwfs IN THE YEAR
Yet another year has flown by at 1st Hook and it is that time again for AGM reporL
l am glad to report that 1st Hook is thriving and. at this year's census in lanuary, we
declared 187 Young People across the Group (Beavers. Cubs, Scouts) which is an
increase of 10 on last yearfs figures; with an Horizon ESU which is a district
provision attsched to 1st Hook of 18 Young People The dip in Explorer numbers is
only due to the timing of birthdays and the unit has now increased to 28. This is all
supported by a leadership team of 30 which has increased from last year with the
addition of new leaders and our Young Leaders that have turned 18 and stayed
with us and taken on an adult role. Therefore, welcoming to the leadership team 7
new leaders: at Beavers. Natslie Milller returning from university and Chloe Hall,
Hurricane Cubs, Georgina Faller-Fritsch. Spitfire Cubs. Owen Day & Charlotte
Davies, Troop. Ryan Symonds, Horizon ESU, Claire Lindsell - Welcome and thank
you for volunteerlng your tlme for our Young People.
As mentioned in last yearfs reportwe were looking into stsrting a Squirrel Dray. A
trial 4-week session run in Ortober/November to which we had a total of 28
Young People interested and 10 potential parents interested in setting thls unit up.
As a result of many meetings and conversations Squirrels was set up to become a
new unit within lrt Hook On Tuesday 21X April 2026 our Squirrel Dray started
with 15 Young People & 6 new adult leaders, Welcome to; Helen Farrell, Janet
Holloway• Kaye Maltman, Allce Plke, lenDy Aroklasamy. Sarab Doyle. iEaders
were invested on 19th May and our Squirrels were invested on 2nd lune. This unit
now also has a short walting lisL
Selectlon weekends have been held for both for leaders and Youn8 People across
the county for the World Scout Jamboree in Poland 2027.1 am pleased to confirm
that we have had two of our Young People selerted, Poppy Illlngworth and Ollver
BarrltL Now the hard work begins in gelling as a unit, gettlng to know the 34 other
unit members and 4 leaders. and raising monies, as a team, to reduce the overall
fees. We. at irt Hook. will be supporting these two youn8 people on their journey
to the Jamboree.
All our sections have been active in the OUT in Scouting holdingsleepovers, camps,
and aCtI￿ty weekends for all our Young People, ensuring they can achieve their
awards and giving them the opportunity to complete the top awards within their
sections. The annual Hook Beer Fes¢ the Group's main fund raiser, was again a
great success.
Our Board of Trustees has been working hard in the background keeping the Group
Compliant and up-trg-date with the changes within Scouting and legislation, ensuring we
have a safe environment for our Young People. With the help of the Transport team, we
have purchased a replacement minibus and also introduced a new online bwking system
to help with record keeping and fault reporting $0 th8t the transport is kept in good
nning order.

Unfortunately. our Chair. Fer8US tAng, T￿]gned in March. I thank Fergus for his time
as Chair and helping gutde the group and keeping us in a good shape. We are very
fortunate th* Fee Lovell, one of our curr¢nt Tn￿￿, has offffal to tske on the role of

Maintenance and uplatin8 of our building is a constant concern for the Group.
especially &$ the main building is now 51 years old, the extension at the far end (stores
& upper hall) 35 years and th¢ wooden fl(x)r even older 75 years. there is always
something to repair repl&e or update. We are Currently looking at the roof,
replacemenvupgrade, potentially installing insulation, and p)ssibly more solar panels.
Then we have the general maintenance - r¢plMn¢nl taps. l¢akiDg toil¢ts. ¢hangin8 the
lighting to LED; the jobs are endless.
If you are involved with property maintenance or involved in the buildin8 trade and a
in a position to guide or help us. please come and join us. We are looking to set up a
sub-team to help, advise, guide and obtain quotsiions on any of our buildin8 works or
n￿intenanCe. We are not I￿king for a team to do the work (but that would be nice), we
need an HQ matntenance team that can help us through this maze and 8uide us so that
we obtstn the best r￿Ults for the building and our Young People, keeping the building
in good shape for now and fuwre 8ener8tions. Maintsining an HQ like ours is not an
easy tssk and falls upon one or two peopl¢ within the Group and would work better if
we had a team: if you help please speak to me or any of th¢ le*lersltrustees in the
Group.
So. all in all, another great year for the Group: it is in g(K)d shape and all sections are
functionin8 well, and, with the introduction of Squirrels. we are now catrring for an age
group from 4- 18 who are obtsining activity badges, gaining top awards, and attending
camp& adventurous activities, inlernational experiences. and a loL lot more, bul the lop
priority at all times is having FUN for ALL
A REALLY BIG THANK YOU to all the L¢wi¢rs and the Group Trustee Board and
their partners for their supporL time and hard work in what they doing, however big or
small it is, all supw)rting our Young People and what that they do, so that our Young
People can achieve their goals and enjoy Scouting at its very besL providin8"Skills for

The fmancial position of the Group is Contain￿ in the Statement of Assets and Liabilities and
Receipts and Payments aLwunL with ¥companyin8 Notes. on the following pages.
The strength and SU￿ of the Group is reflected in its fmances as well as in the range of
activities provided. Once again, it has been another g(K)d year. Subscriptions were broadly in
line with last year. and whilst net fundraising was slightly down. this was only due to timing of
transactions a5 the Hook Beer Festival falls very close trj each fllW)cial ye4r end. Total receipts
were bolstered by 8enerous donations, principally from a para)t's employer scheme which was
put towards the purchase of a replacement minibu&
Running costs were consistent with prior year but expenditswe on assets was up significantly
as invesknent predominantly due to the pu￿haSe of the minibus for approXin￿le1Y £34,(XKI.
In summary. and ￿ d¢tsiled on the next pagty the Group's UDrestri¢ted Cash Funds increased
by £292 in the year, to £109,333. There is £2,625 in Restricted Cash Funds. ￿ at 31 March
2026, being the arnount held on behalf of Horizon Explorer Unli and an unspent Petchey
Award. The available fvnds enable the Group's Trustees to keep the cost of scouting, to all our
members, as low as possible and to allow us to make the most of opportunities to enhance
facilities and equipment as necessary.
The Group's policy on res¢rves is to hold sufficient resour￿8 to Continue the charitable
activities of the Group should income and fundraising activities fall short. The Board of
Trustees considers that the Group should hold a minimum sum equivalent to 12 months nonnal
running costs, circa £25,IJX)-£30,(KIO A review of financial position of the Group is carried
out during the year at Trustee Board meetings. Funds greater than the minimum level are
reviewed regularly in conjunction with potential future commithlents on property, transport
and equipment repairs and improvemenL
The accounts have been drawn up on the receipts and payments basis whi¢h is consistent with
the previous years and with the Charity registration requiremfflts. No funds are in deficit.
