5TH17TH BEXLEYHEATH GROUP SCOUT COUNCIL
TRUSTEE BOARD ANNUAL REPORT
FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 MARCH 2025 (continued)
It has been another busy and productive year for the 5th17th Bexleyheath Scout Group, with
vibrant programmes running across all sections and significant improvements made to our
hall facilities.
Scouting Programme & Membership
All sections-Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts-have continued to deliver engaging and
adventurous programmes, enabling our young people to learn new skills, achieve badges,
and enjoy memorable experiences. Our group remains strong in numbers with a steady flow
of new members and a healthy waiting list. This is a reflection of the dedication and
enthusiasm of our volunteer leaders, who work hard each week to provide a safe and exciting
environment for all.
We currently run..
One Scout Troop
Two Cub Packs
Two Beaver Colonies
As always, parental support is key. Whether it's helping at meetings or joining trips, your
involvement makes a real difference. If you'd like to get more involved-either occasionally
or in a regular role please speak to your child's section leader. Your help will always be
appreciated.
Leadership Updates
5th Beaver Colony is now led by Revd Jim Charles, supported by Alex Csicsek,
with Tracey May offering additional help.
7th Beaver Colony continues under Jackie Hall, with support from Julie Hulyer,
Andra Cuciureanu, and Alfie Shorter (Young Leader).
5th Cub Pack is led by Will Koopman and Michelle Swann, with Alice Moore,
Matthew Swann, and Liam Burley assisting.
7th Cub Pack is led by Sue Forward, supported by Carol Berryman and Chris
Aldridge.
Scout Troop is led by Nicki Thomas, with assistance from Michelle Swann and
Kimberley Stephens, as well as support from our young leaders, Maddison Burley,
Louisa Sampson, and Luke Swann.
A huge thank you to all leaders, young leaders, and parent volunteers who give up their time
to provide high-quality scouting experiences.
Attendance & Communication
Please remember to inform your child's leader if they are unable to attend a meeting. This
helps with planning and ensures we can run the programme smoothly and safely.

TRUSTEE BOARD ANNUAL REPORT
FOR THE YEAR ENDING 31 MARCH 2025 {continued)
Group Achievements
We continue to be one of the most active and supportive groups within the Bexley Scout
District, regularly taking part in district events and supporting the wider scouting community,
including the Black Prince SASU.
Many of our Scouts are also beginning to transition into Explorer Units and some are signing
up for Young Leader training great to see future leaders in the making.
Leadership Changes and Thanks
Julia Strike stepped down as Group Treasurer last year after many years of dedicated
servi￿. We are pleased to welcome Kirsty Sharp, who has taken over group
finances, and Brij Mohan, who is now overseeing hall management and finance
thank you both.
Last year Jeff Hazel stepped down as Group Secretary. We were fortunate to have
Patricia Berry take on the role and thank her for the excellent job she has done.
Our long-serving Chair, Graeme Woodhouse, has decided to step down. We are
incredibly grateful for his years of support and leadership.
Facilities and Hall Improvements
This year has seen major investment in the hall's upkeep, including..
Specialist repair to flaking ceiling
Full electrical inspection and remedial work
Annual fire safety inspection
Repairs to the leaking flat roof (carried out generously free of charge apart from
materials)
Replacement of all internal strip lighting with energy-efficient units and upgraded
emergency lighting
We are also planning..
Hedge cutting outside the hall this summer (On￿ nesting season ends)
Future improvement of the kitchen area
Internal and external painting to support potential lettings and generate income
Formation of a working party to assist with decorating
Longer-term redevelopment planning, including exploring funding options
Thank you to HES Fire Protection Ltd for donating time for our electrical safety inspection
and SOCTEC for their work on the asbestos inspection.
Finances and Costs
As with many organisations, the rising cost of living has impacted scouting. While we strive
to keep costs low, hall maintenance and legal safety requirements have contributed to higher
expenses. We continue to make careful financial decisions to sustain the group and facilities.

Training and Development
Leader training is ongoing and facilitated by the County Training Team. All leaders are
encouraged to keep their skills up to date.
We continue to have strong relationships with our affiliated churches, and church parades
remain a valued part of our programme. As a church-affiliated group, we encourage all
members to attend when possible and parents are always welcome to join.
Governance and Support
The Board of Trustees meets regularly to ensure the group operates in line with Scout
Association and Charity Commission requirements. We always welcome new parent
members to the Trustee Board and invite you to consider joining to support the running and
future of our group.
Closing Thanks
We would like to thank everyone-young people, parents, leaders, trustees and supporters-
for your continued involvement this year. Our Scout Group exists to help young people grow
in confidence, skills, and independen￿. The eXperIen￿S they gain through scouting are only
possible through your support and the tireless dedication of our volunteers.
Please continue to support your section leaders and the group, and if you would like to
become more involved, we would love to hear from you.
Thank you again for helping us create incredible opportunities for the young people of
Bexleyheath.
