Ih 30 Strood (Cuxton) Sclxrt Scout Hall. Bush Road, Cuxton, Rochester, Kent. ME2 ILJ Chdrlty Number: 303432 Report from Group Lead Volunteer This year has proved quite a challenge and unfortunately not everything ha5 been satisfactory A new database was introduced at the beginning of the year and inevitably brought with it some major problems. Many of these have been amended but we still have a way to go before we have a good working tool. In May 2024 the Ground Lease expired and despite many attempts at renewing it we found the discussion to be slow and unhelpful. The owners, The Diocese of Rochester finally passed this over to Savills who have only recently contacted us to discuss the issues. Obviously, we are concemed about the revised rent which will be placed on the Lease and it has become frustrating trying to negotiate this. It does not affect the Group but it does cause us problems when trying to Budget for the future. Fundraising efforts this year have not been as successful as previous years. l+Vhilst the Quizzes are extremely good, the Big Lunch proved not to be. A repositioning of our stall and Ghanges in the weather left us with a loss on the day. Huge thanks go to everyone who turned up to help. We also need to thank the Parish Council for their donation, which will allow us to purchase another BBQ stove for Firework Night. Unfortunately, due to this, we have had to increase subs and we hope everyone understands that to ensure the future of the Group we need to balan￿ the books. Subs had not been increased for many years but with rising costs we felt the time was right. Finally on the negatives we lost two leaders this year. Our thanks go to Dave Budden and Matthew Dartnell who have moved on to pastures new. However. onto the positives, with the lost of Matt his father Steve took his pla￿, coming into uniform for Atlas Cubs. We have also been extremely happy to introduce Hannah. Hannah joined us recently to open a Squirrel Drey on a Saturday morning. Squirrels are the youngest section in Scouting. for 4 6-year-olds. We were one of only two groups in the District who had not introdU￿d them, but we have now redeemed ourselves! Hannah and her assistsnt, Abbie now have a full section. A few camps have happened this year, For the summer, Apollo Cubs went to Belchamps Site in Southend and the Scouts & Explorers went to the Kent Jamboree in Detling. Both camps were a great success. Other camps and weekends away have kept the leaders very busy. Finally I want to say a huge thank you, to the Trustees, the leaders, helpers and young people who give up their time, voluntary, to make the Group the success it is. To the local tommunity supports who have given invaluable assistance, building our gateway at the Kent Jamboree to name one item. To all the parents who support us and their young people throughout the year. For all the packing, being a Taxi and ultimate washing, that Scouting involves. We are truly grateful. Ann Hayes, Group Lead Volunteer Scouts

Cuxton Scout Group Scout Hall. Bush Road. Cuxton, Rochester. Kent. Charity Number: 303432 Atlas Cub Pack Atlas Cub Pack Section Re ort 2024 - 2025 This past year Atlas Pack have been very busy. We are very pleased to have awarded 4 Chief Scout Silver Awards to four very deserving cubs who then moved on to Scouts. We have been working on the 7 challenge badges over the past year and have completed the Animal Carer, Artist, Backwoods Cooking, DIY, Entertainer, Emergency Aid and the Hikes Away badges. As well as some badges being completed at home by the cubs. Our cubs have also earned some Nights Away badges. We camped at Buckmore Park for the District St Georges Day camp. Where the cubs were free to visit all the activities that had been organised for them. These included air rifles. archery, nerf wars, escape room, decorating a dragon's scale, shield making with a campfire and disco being held in the evening. In May we had a weekend activity camp indoors at Broadstone Warren Scout Campsite. The cubs took part in lots of adventurous activities when they eventually arrived having taken the scenic route thanks to Akela's Sat Nav. The evening campfire put on by the Scout Adventures Team was very enjoyed by all. We have spent time at Buckmore Park doing air rifles, archery, wide games, shelter building, tracking and a campfire. Back at the hall we have been hiking around the village and completed a litter pick. We have learned about railway safety. Cooked on a fire and used a campfire stove to cook taco's. We have a local artist visit us to enable the cubs to decorate Christmas ornaments or a raki bowl that then had to be fired in the kiln. We did Christmas craft and baked gingerbread. Thanks to baker Tim from The Cuxton Bakehouse for supplying the dough. We visited Lower Grange Farm Scout Campsite so the cubs could do climbing in the climbing barn. They also had a go at fencing. We helped the Wheel of Cuxton by selling advance programmes for the village fireworks display. As a thank you after the success of the evening, the Wheel of Cuxton were kind enough to make a donation to the pack. We used this money towards a night out at Laser Tag at Battle Sector X. We have taken part in group events such as Remembrance Parade, and our Joint Scout and Guide Carol Service. We have had 4 Young Leaders join us who are working towards their Young Leaders Award/Belt. They have been planning and running games and an activity badge. They are a great asset to the pack. Finally, I would like to say a big thank you to our leaders for their support over the past year, and welcome to Katie who has taken the plunge and agreed to become a leader. Als thanks to the few parents that have assisted us during our visits to Buckmore Park and other visits. l am very much looking forward to the year ahead. Carrie Payne Akela Atlas Pack
