## **Message from the Chairman**

2021 saw Endeavour finally re-open its doors properly, following the formal lifting of restrictions. In what has been an incredibly challenging time for all, it was great to finally welcome our members back and to do what our team does best in providing outstanding youth work.

We were finally able to celebrate the clubs 70th anniversary, where we welcomed members from past and present to share in the glory of yesteryear and present. Whilst 70 years is of course a fantastic milestone to achieve, this is further put into context as it means Endeavour is now the second oldest post-WWII running youth club in London.

Nick and his team continued to build on the solid partnerships and the Black family trust, and the Peacock trust continued their long-standing support for Endeavour. I would like to place on record my sincere gratitude for their continued support and commitment. It would also be remiss of me not to mention the following who all contributed to Endeavour:

PRW( Investment Fund) DLAG (Dons Local action group)

Finally, I would like to again place on record my sincere gratitude and thanks to Nick and his team who worked tirelessly, often against the backdrop of challenging circumstances in providing outstanding leadership and support to our members.

## **Lets look back on the last 70 years…**

## **Club leaders report**

Firstly, I must say congratulations on the club celebrating 70 years of delivering good quality youth work within the borough of Merton. Since our last milestone the club has faced many challenges, especially in the past couple of years. However, the

club has overcome these challenges and continued to operate successfully. Sadly, we have seen 80% of youth clubs close down during the pandemic but I am glad to say, with a great team behind us, we are as strong as ever. With a very proactive board of trustees and a loyal, hard working staff team, Endeavour is not going anywhere anytime soon.

When we entered 2021 the club was still operating remotely, with online youth club and home visits, due to the brutal winter lockdown. As we worked through the first part of the year, we decided that we couldn’t let our 70th Anniversary start off negatively so we delayed it until restrictions were lifted. Once freedom day came, we re-opened the building and very quickly settled in allowing club life to return to normal. The members were thrilled to be back and it was evident they had missed socialising with their friends and spending time together at club.

We managed to have a residential in the summer at Wey Island which still continues to be a popular event in our calendar. Unfortunately, due to the spike in cases later in the year, we had to restrict our other usual trips, such as our annual evening at Hamley’s, and focus on in-club activities.

Coming towards the end of the year club life was back to normal and we can now look forward to a pandemic-free 2022.

I would like to thank my amazing and loyal staff team, some of whom have been at the club for over 30 years. I feel this speaks volumes of how special Endeavour is to everyone associated with it. Also a thanks to the board of trustees who do a lot of the unsung work behind the scenes needed to keep Endeavour running.

## **Treasurer’s report Julie Nadar**

The trustees have managed the club’s budget very well in 2021. Nick the club manager has done very well in bidding for successful grants and fundraising events.

Our investment continued with Penney, Ruddy and Winter into 2021. They helped us to manage the investment wisely so we were able to withdraw a substantial amount to help us continue our work this year, without which our services would have been affected.

**A BREIF HISTORY** … As we are celebrating our 70th anniversary, I thought it would be good to look back at the last 70 years of the club in the annual report. Through the pictures, you can see the clubs journey from 1951 to present day and the amazing work that has been achieved.

Although the club has changed in many ways, from being a boys club up until the mid-eighties, the core values have stayed consistent. I feel this is one of the strong reasons for why the club continues to be successful.

With Endeavour being such a major part of the community over the 70 years, it has (and hopefully always will have) a great reputation.

Over the next few pages is timeline of some families from each generation that we have seen come through our club. We also show the club’s history from opening day right the way through to a modern day youth club. Endeavour has always had its pulse on issues that young people face and we can see the changes from 1951 to 2021 how the club has adapted.
