Speldhurst Recreation Ground is a charitable trust founded to
provide recreational facilities for the benefit of the parish of
Speldhurst on the village recreation ground ("Rec"J.
Poliry on reserves:
The charity aims annually to have a small surplus of Income
over expenditure and maintain a contingency fund of
approximately one year's expenditure.
Sertton 2: Corporate governance
Charity trustees
Day-to-day management of the charlty is carried by the chairman oFthe trustees assisted by
the treasurer and secretary. A meeting of all trustees takes place semi annually, generally in
March and October.
The trustees of the charity consist of the execudve group as well as representatives of the
main village sporting clubs who use the Rec: cricket, stool ball, football and bowls, and the
village fete committee. The sporttng clubs and village events nominate a representative to the
committee,. the other trustees are volunteers approved by the full committee of trustees.

The title to the charitys property, the Speldhurst recreation ground, is held by the Official
Custodian.
Sectlon 3: Summary of main activltles and achievements durlng the year
The charity maintained the Rec ground and pavilion to an adequate. safe. standard for the use
of sporting clubs, and leisure activitles, throughout the year. The programme of work begun in
2021 to enhance the health and longevity of the manytrees on the Rec. continued.
There was alarge. successful, fundraising campalgn to replace a venerable climbing frame in
the village playground with a modern piece of equipment intended to foster the physical
health and social development of resident and visiting children. The new equipment waws
installed during the year. It has eleven different play functions. including a 'twisterf slide. The
design helps children to be active but also encourages interaction by creating a place for a
group of children to play together.
Sertlon 4: Flnanclal summary for the year ended 31 December 2023
During 2023, the charity raised £55,200 in income on its general fund. Its main source of funds
during the year were grants of £36,000 given to replace the climbing Frame in its playground,
including one of £19,000. As usual, there were also contributions from the main sporting clubs
who use the Rec and some donations.
The charity ran a surplus of £8,200 for the year. It finished the year wtth a reserve on general
funds of £20,400, amounting to approximately two years, general expenditure. As a result, the
charity had sufflcient reserve5 to sustain its activitles in 2024 and 2025.
