Group Manager Report - 1[st] Cheshunt:

Following the submission of the group annual census, our numbers as of the 1st January 2024 stood at 84 youth members, we are also lucky to have a core of young leaders who have been through the sections and are now staying on to assist the sections. The youth membership is down to the fantastic leader team we have, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for the continued commitment.

I would also like to introduce new willing volunteers to the leadership team:

Chris Heaton – Beaver Section

Mihir Patel – Stags Cubs

I am sure with the support of the leader team within 1st Cheshunt we can continue to grow as a group.

I would also like to thank Stacey our group chair and the committee, which is formed of leaders and parents for the help with keeping the group and the headquarters going. We have continued with fundraising, with the annual sleigh, November Fayre, Group dinner and dance and fireworks display taking place in the last year. These events have enabled us to retain subs at the current level, with the increased cost of scout membership up £3.50 per child to £56.50 per child any amount over the £50 is paid from fundraising. Along with each section being given £500 to spend on the youth members over the course of the year. We also subsidised both the December camp and Kip on a ship which took place last year. The fundraising money is also being used to replace and add to the Groups equipment which we use to run the sections and camps and we are planning a group trip to Chessington, which will also be heavily subsidised.

As a group I think it important that even though we have a healthy bank balance, that we plan to support the sections and group over the long term as we have no guarantee that the fundraising events we currently run will continue.

To free up the leaders and enable them to concentrate of the running of their sections, we do require additional parent support on the group executive. We only meet about 6 times a year for a few hours in the evening. If you are able to offer your support, It would be appreciated.

Finally, my thanks to everyone who has helped in the last year, parents and leaders.

Without your help and support the group would not be able to continue.

Paul Mills

Group Manager

TREASURER REPORT 2023:

As you can see, we still have healthy balances. HQ income has improved with the dance group recommending us for plenty of parties unfortunately at the end of the year she left us and opened her own studio. We were also fortunate to have £2500 donation.

The fundraising committee has been working very hard and along with the Leaders and raised the following funds:

- £918 Xmas Fayre

- £9235 Fire Works

- £2704 Santa Sleigh

I think everyone, including the children who helped on the Santa evenings, deserves a round of applause. Fireworks and the Santa Sleigh are our biggest fund-raising activities but going forward, due to how often health and safety changes occur, we may not be able to do them for many more years so are looking for fresh ideas and help.

Fund raising contributed to the following funds:

- £246 towards the annual capitalisation fees of £4346.

- £500 for every sectionm which goes towards activities and craft based equipment.

- £1000 towards Kip on a Ship and Christmas camp.

During the course of the year, we also replaced the Santa Sleigh and bought some new camping equipment.

When the HQ was built in 2016 in some instances we could only afford cheaper or second hand materials. With all our fundraising activities, in this financial year we will be able to replace some of these including the emergency back doors, panelling around the main hall and installing a more efficient heating system.

Val

Treasurer.

## – Group Chair AGM Report for January December 2023:

Well, it’s been a good year at 1[st] Cheshunt scout group filled with activities for the children and some great fundraising for the group.

It’s been lovely to see the enjoying activities including a great turn out for the remembrance parade and seeing everyone looking smart.

I would like to give a big thank-you to all the leaders, helpers and Trustee members that work so hard and give up their time for 1[st] Cheshunt Scout Groups members. It’s not just the hours on a section night they give up, but the evenings planning a fun packed programme for all the children to enjoy and the help they give for all the fundraising too. We would really like to have a few new parents to join our Trustee Board to help oversee how the group is run and help with fundraising events. Would be lovely to see some parents from each section to be involved.

For the group to continue to thrive and raise money for the group and children, we need to have some parents to help. We are very lucky at 1[st] Cheshunt to have a great group of leaders that help with all our fundraising events and organizing them. It would to be great to see some new friendly faces to join our Trustee Board to help us with new events and current fundraising activities. It’s important to be able to do our fundraising to help maintain our HQ, subsidise activities and getting equipment that supports all your children and their experiences in scouting. Throughout the year we have manged to subsidise some camps for our children, got new front doors and some new equipment for all sections to be able to use.

So please note this year we are hoping to hold our fireworks display, sponsored walk, a Christmas Fayre, and of course Santa’s Sleigh. After the meeting, I will be coming round to chat to you all and see what opportunities there are for yourselves to support the group this year.

We are currently in the need of someone stepping forward to carry out so admin tasks, which is generally taking notes at Trustee meetings and producing minutes of these meetings, if you are interested or in any other ways of supporting the Group please come and speak to any of us at the end of the formal meeting,

Again, a Big Thank you to everyone that has supported the group this year and I look forward a more active Scouting year and can’t wait to see all you parents supporting the group and joining the exec this year.

Stacey

Group Chair

BEAVERS REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2023:

What a fantastic year we have had.

Every week we try to have a varied programme, having fun, learning new things and working towards badges. We were little scientist & completed experiment badge, learnt about the world & earnt international plus my world, we were creative to earn that badge along with my skills. We walked around Cheshunt and learnt road safety, basic map reading and how to cross the road. We went over Burleigh school field to complete the cyclist badge. We had fun at Tolmers scout campsite burning off energy on the trampolines and revolving wall. For a change we went to the marshes for a fun evening, but we finished the summer term by walking to McDonalds.

Over the year we also we helped 10 beavers obtain their Bronze challenge awards.

We also went to the fire station, had visits from 2 of our dads, both called Chris, 1 was a police man and the other did keep fit. We celebrated Chinese New Year, pancake day, easter with a mad hatter’s tea party and our quiet nigh for charity.

We also had a sleepover where the beavers cooked toad in the hole, decorated biscuits and cooked toast, learnt kitchen safety and earnt their cook’s badge.

In June we had our annual parent and child camp.

In September we joined other Beavers from East Herts and went to Colchester Zoo.

We joined the rest of the group at their Christmas camp where they made many things, had fun in Tolmers grounds, had Christmas dinner and saw Father Christmas.

We finished the year helping on the Santa Sleigh.

We would like to thank the Beavers and parents who helped on the Santa Sleigh.

As you can see, we have had another fantastic, busy year. Following COVID we were running

over numbers but currently our colony figurers are low, but we expect that is just a blip. We have had some new young helpers being Willow, Evie, and Ellie whose help is invaluable.

I would like to welcome Chris who joined us when his son came to beavers.

My thanks, as usual goes to Rose, Tracy, and Jon along with Chris, who make our group one of the best in East Herts.

Jon and Tracy are, unfortunately, looking to retire summer 2025 so we desperately need some

more parents to volunteer to come and have fun with us. Looking forward to having another busy year in 2024.

Val

- 1st Cheshunt Annual Cub (Badgers) Report January December 2023:

After another fantastic year we have had, we decided the Cubs needed some very well-deserved fun.

So, after we start the year back with some Investitures, the following week we decided to pair up with the Stags and go head-to-head at Harlow Quasar. Needless to say, everyone had an amazing time.

Time to combine some handy work into our badge work, with the Cubs making pancakes and the following week learning how to plant a sunflower and take care of it at home. Once again with the help and support of the parents sending in updated pictures of the process. Thank you.

Before we get ready for summer camp, we organised a trip to Tolmers where the Cubs did wall climbing and in group tried to find their way out of an underground maze. Messy and some a little scared when the exit wasn’t where they thought it was but a great day. The part that everyone looks forward too, **THRIFTWOOD CAMP** is here. As always Cubs had an amazing time exploring the outdoors, trying out new activity’s and sleeping in tents. Massive thank you to Daniel Blanchard for helping at camp and to all team for their help. Summer holidays out the way and after hearing all about what the Cubs got up to. We once again organised another trip, this time an educational trip to London to see the sights and Sleep on the famous HMS Belfast, Cubs had a fantastic time taking in all the surroundings and as always very well behaved.

We are very lucky to have a member of our Team who is a police officer and was delighted when asked to talk to the Cubs about the police force, added bonus brought along a police van so the Cubs could see the inside of one. Hopefully first and last.

Unfortunately, the weather is not always on our side, but this said the Cubs still turned up for Remembrance Parade and showed everyone that a little rain is not going to stop us. Brilliant turn out from everyone.

As always, a MASSIVE thank you to all the parents for their taking part, massive thank you to all my young leaders in passing on their skills and knowledge they have learned down to the Cubs.

Thank you to Jamie for being by my side, and we would not be complete without our Caitlin, the effort and work making each night different all comes down to her, she truly is amazing and deserves all the credit.

To all my Cubs, THANK YOU for just being you.

Akela. (Santo Lavoro)

1[st] Cheshunt “Stags" Cub Pack 2023 Report:

We started 2023 completing our Disability Awareness badge, learning about disabilities and that not all are visible. Everyone showed a real insight into being inclusive which was great and even spoke about less known disabilities which was just amazing to hear how aware everyone is. We then learnt to read and write like “spies” with the phonetic alphabet and making code breakers. Towards the end of term, we completed our Home Safety badge and learning how we can keep our homes safe and where there are possible dangers. Our annual camp was a first for us all as we joined up with Scouts and Badgers at

Thriftwood for a joint group camp. As always, fun was had by all, and everyone got the opportunity to try out kayaking and rock climbing. But the most enjoyed activity was the zip-line across the pond, and everyone ran back around for another go (or three)! We also

enjoyed participating in a “proper” campfire with all the other campers and singing along to the camp songs.

We took a walk around Cheshunt on our “Treasure Trail for the Golden Chip” completing clues which led us to our “treasure” at Fishy Delishy. This was part of the “Our World” challenge badge and tied in with the “Local Knowledge” badge. We also celebrated the king’s coronation. A trip to the library proved a great success and everyone enjoyed the

group “icebreaker” activity put on by the librarians and spending time reading books – we will definitely be doing this again. The cubs also spent an evening at Cheshunt Fire Station and got to try out the hose and look around the fire engine. Summer ended with a scooter ride around Cedar’s Park and running (or rolling) up and down the mound.

For Autumn term we put our thinking caps on to solve a variety of challenges, from knots to puzzles. We even attempted to build a ballista, which didn’t go quite to plan when the handle of our launcher flew off! Thankfully no one was hurt. This was all towards the “Team Building” challenge badge. We had an almost full house with our sleepover at HQ and despite a hot chocolate disaster and a few snorers, everyone seemed to get a good night’s sleep and enjoyed their breakfast in the morning.

We spent at evening at Tolmers where the cubs had a go at archery and also attempted to

conquer “The Rock” – a rotating climbing wall with various degrees of difficulties. Of course, a few of them wanted to try the hardest setting, needless to say they lasted less than 5

seconds! We had a Halloween themed games night, and the favourite game of the night was the mummy making, where the cubs had to choose one person in their group to wrap in toilet paper and make the most realistic looking mummy! The annual Remembrance Parade went ahead and despite the rain, everyone who attended were well behaved and done 1st Cheshunt proud.

We ended the term with a group camp at Tolmers. Cubs enjoyed participating in some Christmas crafts, archery, and shooting. We also enjoyed a Christmas dinner and awarded some Chief Scout Silver Awards. Our last nights of term were making and decorating Christmas cakes and spreading some festive cheer by joining in the Santa Sleigh. I would like to thank Millie and Paul Fletcher in their continued support and to Colin and Jordan for helping out with games/activities. A huge thank you, as always, to the cubs and their parents

and look forward to more fun filled activities and trips in the coming year. Thank you all!

Bex

– 1[st] Cheshunt Scout Section Yearly Report for January December 2023:

2023 was a great year for our Scouts, with plenty of opportunity and variety for them to take part in with our Group and with fellow Scouts across the East Herts District. The year also saw our Scouts winning many awards and competitions.

January saw us return to Castleton in the Peak District for our hillwalking weekend. Saturday, we explored an area that contained a plane crash site, it was a challenge to find it, bit with a bit orienteering skill we found it. Sunday gave us some lovely spring like weather to climb and descent Mam Tor

May saw us have a fantastic weekend at Thriftwood Scout camp with the Cubs. A weekend that was action packed and again we were blessed with fantastic weather. Activities included Kayaking, climbing and a challenge of a long list of tasks.

The summer term also allowed for us to have some excellent activity evenings at Tolmers which included rifle shooting, archery, and some orienteering activities. This acted as a training prelude to July’s Silver Buckle competition weekend. Which saw us taking part in competitions and tasks against other teams of Scouts in the District. This was a successful event, with one team winning the Shooting element of the competition and coming 2[nd] in the overall competition.

September, we took part in the district fishing competition at Southend Farm in Waltham Abbey.

In November we had an excellent turnout for our Remembrance Day parade, plus our team entry into the East Herts cooking competition accomplished another win.

December was a very busy month, as a group we held our Christmas camp at Tolmers, where the Scouts were able to go ice skating on a rink in Greenwich Park and visited the Imperial War Museum where a small group of Scouts were invested. We also got out and supported the Santa Sleigh tour and finished the year with a nigh time hike, walking from Cuffley back to our HQ with a sleepover and breakfast.

All of this has been made possible with a massively supportive group of Young Leaders and Vas who became an adult occasional helper, all who have helped on section nights, Camps and activities throughout the year.

Paul, Billy, Brad, Rob and Vas
