th 10 Christchurch (Mudeford) Sea Scout Group Trustees annual report for the year ending 31st December 2021 We have two Beaver Colonies, two Cub Pack and Scout Troop and partnership Agreement with Neptune District ExpLorers We have a good mix of girls and boys. our numbers have grown even in this diff icult year. It's great to see aLI of our young people experiencing so many activities even at the beginning of the year we couLdn't meet in person. Our leaders are doing a great job in developing the young peopLe through each section, even whiLe using zoom. AIL the young people are being awarded many badges through the varied programme. I would like to thank ALL the leaders and parents who support for their continued dedication and h3rd work. Moving fonmard for 20221 am sure we WILL work together to ensure the young people of Mudeford gain the best Scouting experiences possible whether on land or water. th 10 Christchurch (Mudeford) Sea Scout Group The Group's policy on reserves is to hold sufficient resources to continue the charitable activities of the group should income and fur)draising activities falL short. In addition, we maintain sufficient funds for a rolling replacement of equipment. The Group is a trust established under the ruLes which are common to all scouts. The Group's governing documents are those of The Scout Association. They consist of a Royal Charter, which in turn gives authority to the Bye Laws of the Association and The Policy. Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association. The Trustees are appointed in accordance with the PoLicy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association. Reports for the year 2021

GSL Report

As for us all, this year started with more challenges and restrictions. All our sections continued to operate successfully using weekly Zoom sessions, but we longed for the time we could meet again. To boost morale, we started the year we were able to order our new sailing dinghies. £40,000 worth of sailing boats and safety boats and associated kit. All delivered to the now closed Hengistbury Head Centre.

The closure of the Hengistbury Head Centre was dreadful news at the end of 2020. The centre was closed during the first lockdown periods but didn’t return in September 2020 and we were told that Brockenhurst College were relinquishing the lease back to the BCP Council. So, even when we could start meeting again, we were delayed by the BCP Council imposing a ban from using the centre until the new licenses to use it were finally agreed in June.

It was great to see that all our sections did get time on the water with the Scouts and Neptune Explorers enjoying the new boats over the summer.

Our waiting list for young people to join the Group remained high and we took the decision to run a couple of open evening in the late spring to see the interest in a second Colony and Pack, perhaps more importantly would parents support the Group and join as new leaders and supporters. I am pleased to report they did! We would like to thank everyone that enthusiastically signed up, allowing us to open the New Beaver Colony and Cub Pack and reduce the waiting list considerably, We, have a great group of young people and a fantastic adult team.

In the summer and autumn, we enjoyed several camps. The Scouts went to Lyons Copse near Portsmouth for a week, followed by a weekend at Braggers wood in November, the Cubs had a Magic and Mayhem camp and the Beavers a Space Intergalactic sleepover.

We have renewed ties with our local Church All Saints, holding Remembrance Parade and finishing the year with a lovely Carol service.

We have continued to make improvements to our Scout hut, TSO and look forward to more work being completed in 2022.

Four of our young people were selected to represent Dorset at the world Jamboree in South Korea in 2023- Well done!

Finally, a huge thanks to the Committee for all their Support, to the Leaders and supporters, our Young Leaders and the SBS team for everyone’s commitment to Mudeford Sea Scouts.

Beaver Section Report

Reflecting on our Beaver section programme for 2021 has produced many happy memories despite all the challenges that the year brought, and we are stronger at the end of the year than we were at the beginning

The Spring 2021 term we were still in lockdown and started another Zoom programme slightly nervous and wondering if we had the strength and enthusiasm to keep going, but of course seeing the Beavers in their uniform dressed and ready to start and being amongst them on screen was a tonic we all badly needed. We talked about hobbies, did a Samba session on Zoom (Much quieter than being in the hut for the Leaders!). We painted – (Much less messy than being at the hut for the Leaders), the older Beavers did some fantastic challenges for us, we talked about our feelings, did an assault course, played family sock Olympics and did cooking making edible slime and mango hedgehogs!

Summer term was so great to be together again despite extensive risk assessments, distancing, sanitising, cleaning and persistent rain on many a Monday evening but we started with a dry one for messy night – (which was very messy for the leaders!) completed our campcraft badge, played in the rain @ Braggers Wood, played with remote cars, went pond dipping, explored Highcliffe castle and went out on the water on safety boats and rafts.

In the Summer we also held our first open evening inviting all the parents and children who were on our waiting list and never likely to get a place in our Monday Beaver colony. The evening went well with enough offers of support to take the plunge to open our second colony on a Wednesday

In the early Autumn we learnt Zumba, hunted for sock treasure, and were able to launch with our intergalactic sleepover with our Monday Beavers.

In October our second colony started and both colonies cooked, learnt about disability, flew away with Captain Jon for our Air activities badge and made props to put on our Christmas show and we completed the year with our much-loved Christmas bauble hunt on St Catherine’s Hill with a special visitor taking time from his busy schedule and meeting us in the woods.

Whilst we have made great strides with our 2 colonies, we now have an even bigger waiting list and could open 2 Squirrel Dray’s but feel we cannot progress any further without finding a Beaver leader for each colony which we sadly still haven’t achieved.

To that end none of this would have been possible without Helen who has been such a huge support to us all to enable us to achieve our programme to the two colonies through Covid and to Tre and the SBS and supported by the Explorers who enabled to us to get onto the water and to our Committee who have supported us thoroughly along the way. I’d also very much like to thank our dedicated assistant leaders, section assistants and young leaders who were a constant throughout 2021 - Zara, Adam, Russell, Caroline, Natalina, Kenzie, Ava and Hester and to the latter end of the year Saira, Sam, Laura, Abi, Daniel, Carey, Casey and Joshua.

Lastly Brett who drives us all to do the absolute best for our young people to deliver a great sea scout programme for our section and group.

CUBS SECTION REPORT

Again its been another full and fun packed year and we are so thankful we have been able to meet face to face as the restrictions slowly eased over the last year and Zoom meetings for now, thankfully, a thing of the past. In the Summer term, we completed our Cycling badge, trialled out some martial Arts with the AG Martial Arts company, learnt how to erect and put down tents, and worked on our Physical recreation and Athletics badges with a series of evenings including a Ninja training evening, “What sport?” evening and of course had our three water activity evenings with rafting, sailing and kayaking. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to camp due to the Covid19 restrictions and so we adapted the plans we had for a “Bare Necessities” Survival camp into an activity day time only weekend on the Spring Bank holiday weekend at Braggers Wood. A great time was had by all and we were able to tick off many of the Outdoors challenge badge bits that some of the older Cubs were needing fro their Silver Awards. We completed the term with a socially distanced visit to the RNLI station, crabbing and a trip to Rock Reef that the Cubs had voted for as their end of term treat.

The Autumn term saw the Cubs have one final session at Hengistbury Head Activity centre and then completing our Scientist badge with some very crazy experiments including fireworks science! Sadly not all our experiments worked but that’s science for you! We started work on our Community Impact badge - stage 2 and the Cubs donated different items for the Christchurch food bank throughout the term. Sadly, our visit to the food bank was cancelled as they were having building works and relocating spaces but we were very proud to donate a vast amount of supplies to those in need at the end of the term. We had various different disability themed evenings to complete our disability badge, completed the new Money Skills badge and we got involved in Parliament week, where the Cubs voted to look into the “Homeless” and “Refugees and displaced children” from the Million Hands project as our next terms work to complete our Community Impact badge - stage 2 work. We had a really fun Highland games evening to celebrate St. Andrew’s Day, and finished off the term with our favourite Bauble hunt around St. Catherine’s hill but this year had a twist to include some sensory challenge stations to tie in with our disability work, of course had a visit from Santa at the end.

One of our major successes of this term was to open a second Cub pack in the beginning of October to reduce the many young people that were on our waiting list. Im very proud to say that both packs are now full and thriving, both working on the same programme and having shared events together. Credit must go to the dedication of my team of leaders as it was no mean feat splitting the current team in two but still working together and recruiting more people to help regularly. Its been so wonderful to get back to some kind of normal and as usual many, many badges have been earnt and awarded. I’m extremely proud to say that the majority of our Cubs continue to complete their Silver Awards. As always, we are really proud of all our Cubs for all of their hard work, who now are an impressive number of over 50! A massive thanks must go to all our parents who have supported their young people in completing tasks at home, but my biggest thanks must go to my superb team of leaders, assistants and parent helpers. I really couldn't do it without you all, you are an amazing and inspiring group of people.

Mudeford Scout Active Support Unit (SBS) Report

The Mudeford Scout Boating Support Unit was set up late in 2020 to formalise the structure of the water activities team, as it had been mixed with the scout troop leadership for a long time. We initially met at TSO to discuss its purpose and what we wanted from our volunteers.

2021 was a mixed year with a tough hand to play for the team.

Although Brett & the committee had worked tirelessly to raise the amazing sum of over £35,000 for new boats, we were in the throes of lockdown and didn’t know when we could take delivery of our eagerly anticipated new boats.

Added to this, Brockenhurst College gave up running the Hengistbury Head Outdoor Education Centre in March 2021, which caused a lot of uncertainty and prevented us from planning our year’s boating.

Worse, this held up the delivery of those lovely new boats for some time. However, we were given temporary to take delivery of our new boats:

4 RS Zest dinghies

• 3 RQ Quest large dinghies

• 1 RS 200 double handed racing dinghy

• 1 Lightning racing dinghy generously donated by Paul Rayner, our sailing coordinator

• 2 Rigiflex 3.6m safety boats with 10HP outboards

• 4 Hartley 10 starter dinghies

Eventually, BCP Council granted us a licence and continued access to the site, so we could start boating.

By the time we were back on site, the main building had been condemned and out of use. Thankfully, we were able to use the Darwin Room, which will suffice for the moment.

That took us to July, with not much time to do any water activities before the summer holidays.

The SBS and section leadership teams put in a huge effort, and we were able to offer boating sessions involving Sailing, Kayaking and Rafting for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers.

Due to the short summer season, we put on a couple of weeks of boating in September with many sessions finishing in the dark!

The SBS is now well established with a brilliant set of volunteers, many of whom are involved with sections in the group too.

Finally, I would like to offer a special thank you to the Branco family, whose unexpected and most generous donation to the group (Beavers in particular) enabled us to buy a second new safety boat this year.

The new boat, resplendent in white, extends our safety cover and power boating flexibility is named Branco to honour their generosity.
