## **2[nd] ALDERSHOT SCOUT GROUP Charity No: 302194** ## ANNUAL REVIEW 31/12/23 The Group, being part of the Scout Association of the United Kingdom, follows the Associations’ objectives to help young members between the ages of 6 and 25 years to achieve their individual potential and to become responsible citizens. The Group consists of a Beaver Colony, a Cub Pack and a Scout Troop. It is supported by adult volunteers who are all unpaid. The continuing success of the group and its strong reputation in the community is evidenced by the fact that we waiting lists for all sections, testament to the dedication and hard work of our leaders. The Group Trustee Board has met regularly throughout the year and is continuing to ensure the prosperity of the Group and our ongoing plans to make improvements to the Group Headquarters. 2023 saw the second year of the group with Mick Mills as our acting Lead Volunteer, Mick, together with our Scout, Cub and beaver leaders has been successful in creating and managing a comprehensive and exciting programme of events for the children. The members of the Trustee Board would like to thank all our leaders for the enormous contribution they make to our community. Our Headquarters are not only used by the Scout group. They are also used by the local Guides, Brownies and Rainbows in addition to the local branch of the Royal British Legion, to which this group is proudly affiliated. This means that the building is in use every weekday. It is also used by Rushmoor Borough Council as a polling station and as the base for Rushmoor’s fireworks spectacular in the years that it takes place. During the last year, Leaders, Trustees and Active Support Group members have carried out groundwork in the area around the hut as well as improvements and to the hut and storage areas. We very much hope that we will shortly be renewing our lease on this building after which we will be able to carry out the long awaited work to develop the large area at the back of the hut to provide an external space for activities. As a result of our successful fundraising activities, we are able to finance this and other works which will improve the already first class facilities enjoyed by our members. The members of the Trustee Board have responsibility for the running of the Group, The Group is a Trust established under rules, which are common to all Groups within the Scout Association and is recognized as an approved charity. Trustees are appointed in accordance with the Policy, Organization and Rules of the Scout Association. Since 2017 our leaders have been supported by an Active Support Unit (2ASU) of volunteer parents who can be called upon at key times to support leaders in providing the best possible experience for our scouts, cubs and beavers. We are grateful to Mr Justian Dupe for his hard work in coordinating this group and recruiting new members. In the coming year, we will be aiming to recruit new members to 2ASU and to continue with the training of members in the handling of all 2[nd] Aldershot equipment. We are grateful to all members, in particular to some members who have remained with us even after their children have moved on from Scouts. The Trustees have identified the major risks to which the group is exposed. At the end of the year income reserves (i.e. assets less liabilities) amounted to £69,270.77. The accounts have been drawn up on the receipts and payments basis, which is consistent with the previous year.
