The Iruslees present th￿r report and audited financial stsiemenls of 62nd Bristol Scout
Group for the year ended 31 March 2023.
The financial statements comply with the duty in sertion 4 of the 2006 Act to have due
regard lo guidance on public benefit published by the charity commission.
Objectives and activities
The charitable objecbves of the 62nd Bristol Scout Group are to promote the devebpment of
young people in achieving their full physical, intellectval, social and spiritual potentials as
individuals. as responsible (itizens and as members of their local. national and inlemational
communities.
As Scout5, we believe in preparing young people wth skills for life. We encourage our young
people lo do More, leam more and be more. Each week the 62nd Bristol Scout Group gives
young people of Bristol the opportunty to enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills
they need lo succeed.

Achlevements and perfomiance
The past year has seen a strong recovery of the Group to nomiality Post the Covid pandemic
reslriclions. The Group's number5 remain consistent to the previous year with small
adjustments so as to ensure optimal section sizes at each meeting. Each section of the
group is at full capauty. At the census in January 2023 the headcount was 137 (2022: 1371.
All sections enjoyed actFvities inside and outside the hul during their regular evenings either
developing new sknlls. supporting the local community or just having fun. There too was a
packed schedule of ovemight stays to longer camps. These ranged from ovemight stays al
Ihe hut for the Beavers. to Surf. Winlef and Summer camps for the scouts. lo name just a
few. This all made possible by the dedication of our amazing group of young leaders and
leaders.
The trustees have also been busy. In December, Xmas tree sales over iwo Saturdays, and in
May a Family Carnp (with lots of leader5. help) at the River Dart campsite was a huge
success. A fantastic opportunity for many new families to gel lo know the 62nd Group.
A special mention and a big thank you to the Groups new Treasurer, lan Norton. Handover
and support is being very well managed ￿￿th our previous Treasurer.
All this was in addition to our long tem plan to develop a new hut for the 62nd. Progress
continues lo be made. completing a percentage of the prerequisites for Bristol City Council
{'the Council'l for the hut lease, 1dentl￿-ng a network of parent support and most importantly
the formation of a subcommittee to lead the activity. Benchmarking against other similar
Scout Group developments. there is still a long joumey ahead. but we have started strongly
and are committed lo deliver the 5-10 year plan..
Finally, and with sadness Andrew Pope has decided lo step down as a 62nd GTOUP
Executive Committee rnember and trustee. Andy has supported the Group for approximately
14yrs in this capacity. In that time, his support has ensured a strong and robust leadership.
Andy Instead has taken leadership of the Hul Development subcommittee for which the
trustees are hugely grateful.
Plans for the Future
As well a5, of course. continuing to deliver a high level of scouting across all sections. we
plan lo111 work towards seujring the lease ol the land with the Council. the old lease having
expired several decades ago,. with this we will be in a posibon to progress our business case
and then start securing significant funders (2) Engage wilh professional seNices to initiate
architeclural plans. surveys, etc io mature- the development. We welcome the continued
fundraising through (sponsored) events by scouts. (￿bs. beaveTS and their friends and
farnily.
Financial Review
Our income was £61.412021122-. £63.8kl and expenditure £58.2k12021122 £48.1 k) and our
balance at the end of the ffinanual period was £94.1 k (2022-. £90_9kl.

Our current balance in excess of reserves (see below) is £78.8k, which is aligned with our
aim lo accumulate funds to finance the retKJilding of a new hut.
Reserves policy.. we hold £15k in reserves. which would cover all operating costs, including
contributions to the district. for an average financial year. excluding activitieslcamps,
additional equipment and fundraising expenditure.
Income Highlights
Our annual Christmas Tree sale brought a surplus of £2.4k vthich was down on last year, but
still very healthy and reflects the increased costs of trees which I￿uldn't all be passed to the
public.
Hut specific donations received this yeaf were £760.
Gift payments were up to a healthy £3.1 K due to the subscriptions being at pre-covid
levels.. a good reason for parents and carers to keep up wilh their Gift Aid declarations
Expendlture Highlights
We purchased a new water um, a BBQ and a large gas heated paella pan for the Group
which are in regular use by all the Sections.
We hav8 also made advance payments of £1693 towards the 2024 Scout Olympics trip
