Trustees Annual Report for the year ended 31st March 2021 **MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS FOR THE YEAR**

## **Group Chairman Report**

The last twelve months have truly been an exceptional time with everyone having to adjust and find different ways of living & working. The year obviously also impacted on our Scouting as well, with, as you know a large chunk of the year being done virtually via Zoom, something that we had never experienced before. However, the Group rose superbly to the challenge and again, I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere thanks to all of the Leaders and volunteers in the Group that, despite the enormous task, manged to keep Scouting going throughout the pandemic, both on-line and the limited face-to-face meetings. I would also like to again thank all of our parents and carers that joined in with their young people at home and also out and about and made it possible for us to continue.

Another victim of the pandemic was our main annual fundraising event, Danbury Fireworks which, for the first time in 52 years we had to cancel. Unfortunately, we have also had to cancel the 2021 display as well due to the uncertainty. However, we do hope to be back next year, so please put the Saturday 5[th] November in your diary.

However, 2021 was also a year to celebrate as 1[st] Danbury Scout Group is a 100 years old. The earliest reference to Scouting in Danbury was in 1921, with a G.D. Stuart running a Troop at “South Holt”, Danbury with 11 Scouts. A hundred years and we have grown from one leader and eleven Scouts to a Group of over 130 People. We also have a waiting list of people waiting to join and desperately need more adult volunteers to help us accommodate these young people. So, if you or anyone you know is willing to give up some time to help out, either on a ad-hoc or more permanent basis, please do let us know.

Finally, can I thank all of the Leaders, Executive Committee members and volunteers for all their hard work and commitment to the Group and for the success that they create.

Let’s hope that the next twelve months brings some kind or normality to our worlds.

Nigel Hills Group Chair

## **Group Scout Leader Report**

Wow, another year gone! I have been a Leader for almost 20 years and Group Scout Leader at Danbury for almost 6 years. I think I can honestly say the last 12/18 months has been the most challenging, but also in many ways the most enlightening. For all of us life has changed, and we are all doing thing differently now to how we use to do them, and Scouting is no different, it to has had to overcome many challenges.

The way in which we as a group embraced online Scouting is a fine example of this. From an active weekly programme to suddenly having to switch to a virtual programme was not easy. I have been truly impressed at how the leadership team within the group have coped. Leaders had to rewrite programmes, invent new ideas that would work in a way that has never been tried before.

I hope that you all agree they did an amazing job, and I am very thankful for all the hard work that this has taken. Having joined many and ran a few virtual meetings myself, I think it fair to say that young people enjoyed it and it was great to see so many parents also taking part and letting us bring Scouting into your home.

With restrictions starting to ease, it is good to see that Scouting is returning to normal and that sections are meeting again on a weekly basis and starting to make the most of the facilities that we offer within the group, no more so than seeing the Group celebrate 100 years of Scouting recently. It was great to see so many your people having such a good time.

Danbury Scout Group is run by entirely by volunteers who given up their times in the interests of help young people develop and learn new skills, that will hopefully be useful in later life. As a group we are also ways looking for new help, if any of you reading this feel that you are able in any way to volunteer your time then please do get in touch.

Whilst I hope that we have seen the back of all the restrictions, I suspect the next few months will continue to throw challenges at us. I am sure that as a group will continue to over come these challenges, and we will do our upmost to keep the group running as normal as possible.

Lastly can I say again THANK YOU all the leaders and Exec Members for their continued hard work and support over the last 12 months.

Kev Mayle Group Scout Leader

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2021**

I report on the accounts of 1 st Danbury Scout Group for the year ended 31 March 2021 which are set out on pages 1 to 4.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

The Charity's Trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The Charity's Trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 144 (2) of the Charities Act 2011 (The Act) but that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

- Examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,

- To follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and

- To state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of independent examiner's Statement**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes considerations of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

In the course of my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or

- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or

- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the fo(m and content of the accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair' view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **1 st DANBURY SCOUT GROUP**
