Annual Report and Accounts 2024
Solar Panel Installation - September 2024
The Victoria Hall continues to offer the community a wide range of events and activities to improve well being and support social interaction. We continue to offer TWO different community cafes meeting once a fortnight that, between them, raise hundreds of pounds for local charities. Our traditional Burns Night and Christmas Market continued along with a highly professional play and the 2nd ‘Jingle & Mingle’ carol service run by the Gratton Trust took place in December. We are very proud that this 127 year old hall is playing a part to prevent global warming by installing 30 solar panels on our roof - an outlay supported by the Rural England Prosperity fund through Winchester City Council. We are most grateful to the Council for this generous contribution.
Management Committee
The committee is formed of the representatives of the voluntary (not for profit) groups who meet in the hall on a regular basis and the elected roles of Chair, Secretary and Booking Secretary. Committee members are trustees of the charity and, as such, jointly own and manage the Hall. Eve Morgan took over the role of our Booking Secretary at the start of 2024 - our grateful thanks to Eve for taking on this role. Quarterly meetings were held throughout the year.
Our thanks to all our supporters for their valuable contribution throughout the year especially with their generous donations at the Christmas Market and Community Cafes which boost our funds significantly.

Finances
A copy of the final accounts for 2024 is attached to this report. Private bookings for parties have increased over the past year boosting funds and awareness of the facilities on offer. Grants were received from Wonston Parish Council in April (£2,000) and from Winchester City Council in September (£8,845) for the installation of the Solar Panels. Fund raising events such as the Christmas Market and a play organised by Eryl Holt generated £1,257. We really appreciate the support from our regular clients who continue to hire the hall throughout the year. Wonston Parish Council also covers the rent for the Community Cafes which ensures the hall is well used and generates higher donations for the local charities.
Building and Grounds
Completion of the external painting and replacement of the carpet outside the meeting room occurred in the spring. Tree felling and fence repairs were carried out in the autumn with costs very generously covered by Sue Lane, previous secretary for the hall for many years. The installation of 30 solar panels on the rear facade of the hall took place in September.
The Future
It is yet to be determined how the installation of solar panels will reduce our electricity bills. It is hoped that the summer months will generate significant export funds to offset next winter’s fuel bills. We are delighted to have been selected to host Radio 4’s ‘Any Questions?’ in February.
