Annual Report to Charity Commission for 2025
Crookham War Memorial Halls is a registered charity (301784) providing a community hall facility to the people of Church Crookham and surrounding areas. The facilities include two halls, a large grassed area, and a good car park. The Main Hall has a capacity of 150 with a fixed stage, a sprung timber dance floor, modern kitchen and disabled toilet with a baby change. The other hall will take 50 people and provides its own kitchen and toilets, including disabled and baby change facilities. Both halls have modern double-glazed windows and doors, the Main Hall had its lighting and fire escape lighting replaced with environmentally responsible new LED lights while the smaller hall had its strip lighting replaced with low energy LED lighting.
The halls have their electrics, gas, and fire extinguishers checked regularly and have valid safety certificates for all.
Both halls have modern, lightweight, folding tables, two sizes, stored on trollies to make them more accessible. The halls are kept clean and inviting with regular painting of walls and doors and updating of toilet facilities.
It is possible to book either hall for use between 8.00am and 12.00 midnight, seven days a week. The charity is managed by an unpaid volunteer committee of trustees generally elected by organisations using the halls or co-opted members of the public. There are nominally four officers, Chairman, Vice-chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer, who are confirmed annually after the Annual General Meeting in May or June. There are two paid employees, one part-time Caretaker and a parttime Lettings Secretary.
The aim of the charity is to provide the community with two halls for hire, which are well used with regular bookings. Finances continue to be run with considerable prudence and income exceeds costs.
The charity has no debts, no mortgage, and no loans.
When reviewing the charity’s aims and objectives and in planning future acts and policies each year, the Trustees have referred to the Charity Commissioner’s guidance on public benefit.
