## **FRIENDS OF BATHURST POOL**

The season of 2020 was a very testing time for the charity. It was a special year as it was the centenary of the pool but unfortunately, because of the covid restrictions, some celebrations had to be cancelled. Happily, our planned visit from HRH Princess Anne on 10[th] July went ahead following rigorous covid and security measures being put in place. A small celebration took place on 2[nd] October, 100 years to the day of the opening of the pool, when we had several visitors to swim or join us to share the delightful centenary cake made by Tasha Saunders. The season ended with a Triathlon on 4[th] October.

Following a strict covid risk assessment we opened the pool for serious swim club on Monday 13[th] July and continued into September. All members were very appreciative of our efforts to keep open but at the same time observing the strict rules to protect our elderly volunteers and visitors.

During the winter the old liner and stainless steel were removed and I would like to thank Mike Powell, Roger Lambert and Colin Knight for all the help that they gave. The installation of the new liner was successfully completed and Albany engineering fitted a new motor on the filter but we then had a problem with the filter which necessitated the removal of a gate valve and a non return valve. Both of these had to be dug out because they were sunk into concrete. Huge thanks must go to Mat Jones and Andy Hayward for the hard work involved in removing the concrete. A firm from Manchester has donated the new equipment and the fitting of it was completed in May 2021. This was all been organised by Phil Delaney of S M P to whom we owe a huge debt of gratitude.
