**Aylburton Village Club Annual Trustee Report 2023**

Aylburton Village Memorial Hall and Playing Field has had a difficult few years but continues to be self supporting. Despite public perception, we receive no public funding and rely on donations, fund raising and rental income. We are also continually trying to maintain, heat and upgrade our facilities. The Hall is an old building and running costs are subject to increase. We are also competing with new build local facilities, so we play to our relative strengths. The Hall and field are major features of village life, and community cohesion is often discussed by the powers that be. There may be some limited support, but not a great deal. People move to the village because of its atmosphere. We are actively contributing to this. We have a very limited number of volunteers and will always welcome active supporters. We may be slightly less enthusiastic about free non-expert advice and non-resourced events.

2023 saw another record breaking carnival in gorgeous weather. This was both in attendance and funds raised. Thanks to all our organisers and volunteers. The Fruit and Veg Show is back, and hopefully there will be Carols on the Cross in 2024. We have now successfully undertaken further renovations to our rental cottage. Our “new” tenant remains secure.

Repairs and renovations to the Hall are seemingly never ending. Highlights include resolving damp and improving guttering. The 1939-45 gates are to renovated, with a generous £1k donation from the Flower and Veg show. The Hall is now registered with the War Memorials Trust. Gigaclear have now installed and activate Broadband/WiFi at no cost to the Hall. Website now updated. We are working actively with the Exile Cricket club to improve our playing field. We are planning to improve carparking on the field – with a grant from the Alvington Wind Turbine Fund. We continue to offer parking to the Church and Chapel, weather permitting. We are delighted to host events. We have seen some users cut back due to our limited parking. We still host events for Aylburton Primary School and waive any charges. We have been successful in obtaining a number of large donations and grants. In conclusion I’d like to personally thank my fellow volunteer committee members for all their sustained efforts. Any villagers who would like to get more involved will always be welcomed. After some difficult years we are still open to the public and occupying a central position in the village. Hopefully we can continue to improve our facilities.

SC Rutherford Chairman Thank you.
