Southend Sea Cadets Unit Mana ement Committee Annual General Meetin 2025 Chairman's Re ort Dear Parents, Guardians and Suppoiter5.1 would like to welcome you all to T.S. Implacable this evening for our Annual General Meeting. Buildin rounds maintenance. With the large plot of land we have, continued gi-ounds tnainlenance is essential. Thank you to Joe for the I'egular cutting of the grass and general tidying around the unit. At last christmas's work paity the priority wa5 the cutting back of the hedge and li'ees boi'dering the pavement, Ihis was completed with considerable help from vai'ioiis parents. Although not as overgrown as last year, they could now do with a triin to keep in check. This year we have completed the redecoration of the main deck with help from Nathan Cable. In addition the extei'ioi. of the unil has almost been completed with just a i'eai. wall & the black plinth to finish. There are still some internal areas we wish to redecorate, beiiig the galley flats & coi'ridor, and the cadet heads. The main project this past year has been the replacement of the Norniandy Block which is almost complete. The new cabins, forming the Essex Complcx, are fully functional and in use, the final parl of this project. the installation of a canopy over the three walkways, was completed last week. The total budget for this project is in the region of £30K which has been funded from grants, a legacy donation, cadet fundi'aising and a private donation. We have also completed an upgrade to our IT infrastructure, WiFi is now available throughout the unil and several new laptops have been purchased. This will provide accessibility lo the online cadel training programme in all classi'ooms. Oui. next major project will be the inslallalion of solai. pane15 and batterys, we shall also be considcring reconfiguring more of the heating to electric, pait of our emphasis on inaking the unit more sustainablc. To fuither improve our infi'asti'uctur¢ we have a list of future projects to undertake. New flooi'ing galley Ilals & main passageway Er)large and resurface the car park to providc a surface suitable for a parade ground. Install fence to front of unit border of hedge & pavement Dcfibrillator, which we have some fund5 reserved for Replace galley units & appliances Convert Lowei. Boatstore to include accessible classrooms & toilets Thc future of the Range, being built from conci'ete pancls and posts which are deteriorating, and has significant movemenl within the structure. As this is not going to be used as a range again we havc decided that at some lime in Ihe future this will be demolished. We would like it to be replaced with a largei., self contained building and have had some basic ouilinc plan5 drawn up but would cost in excess of £S00K. ro
Sailin facilities. We conlinuc to be members of the Isldnd YaLhi Club with the use of Iheii. facilities and boat storage. To date we haven't bcen invoiced for diis years fees but last years was £1326.00 and each year it increascs by RPI. Our fleet of dinghy is CUlTently standing at 3 quests, 3 Picos, a Laser 2000 and 2 RS Fevas, we also have 2 Trinity's foi. rowing aiid oui. Power boats stand at 2 Ribs, a Jaffa litgiflex and d Halmatic. We are cun'elltly looking ut our realistic rcqiiii'einents and any su]ylus MSSC oThmcd will bc IransfetTed to othei- units. Tliis will help reduce our liability to the Yacht club. We will continue to monitor ihc cost of the meinbership and the value lor money in relation to the boating houi's tn case another option oi. facility arises. lJnfortunately without a senioi. sailing instructoi. at Ihc uiiit wc have to i'ely on the docks for our sailiiig but we have been Inaking good use of the IYC for rowing and power boating. MiniBus All running well and ULEZ conipliant so no extra cost for attending the docks. Regular independent safely inspections are beiiig complcted in line with section 19 pennit requirements and all repair rceommendations are implemented. Fundraisin We held another successful collection at Tcsco last week and having a card reader certainly paid off, we raised just over £600.00 which we will use to subsidise the many off shoi'¢ courses the cade15 have bcen on this year. We have applied to other superniarkets but aTe still awaiting a reply. l.ast month the cadets also participated in a sponsored walk which will be at least 30 /0 match funded. Volunteers This year we also welcomed severa] new members to the team, Lt. Cdi.. Ri¢hard Walsh has joined the unit after spending many years as part of thc dislrict team, P() Keith Chapman has moved to us frorn Chelmsford unit, Symon Kidson who last week completed the training requirements and has been promoted to Pi'ovisional Petty OfFicer and John Duffy as unit assistant.
