Sheering Village Hall attracts a wide range of user groups of all ages, who use the Hall for various activities including social, recreation, education and exercise purposes, catering for everyone from the very young to the elderly and everyone in between.

The hall is home to a Pre School every morning from Monday to Friday during term time. Afternoon and weekend activities include Bowls, Keep Fit, Dancing, Yoga, Zumba, Community Hub and Bridge Club. Grants were also received from Epping Forest District Council, ASDA and Essex Community foundation to run Youth Club sessions.

As well as income from hiring, the charity organises fundraising events during the year such as wine tasting, a Halloween Party, Bingo and a D-Day event

This year we obtained a grant from Essex County Council which will be used for hall renovations and maintenance and we received a restricted donation from the Pre School to be used specifically for hall renovation works. These works will be completed in 2025.

## **Accounts for the year 2023/24**

Overall, there was a surplus of £21,499 (unrestricted £5,731, restricted £15,768) compared to a surplus last year of £7,329. The charity has no employees. Bookings and hall management roles are undertaken by the trustees as volunteers.

## **Risk Areas and Risk Management**

Unrestricted fund cash and bank balances of £29,452 are held at the year-end, which is sufficient to cover one and a half years of running costs. The biggest risk to charity has been finding sufficient numbers of volunteers to serve as trustees.

It has therefore been decided to accept the offer of Sheering Parish Council to become sole trustee of the charity and this will take effect in 2025

## **Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Sheering Village Hall (Registered Charity No. 301393)**

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Sheering Village Hall (the Trust), for the year ended 30[th] September 2024.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

## **Independent examiner’s statement**

I have completed my examination. I have identified a matter of concern that some of the source documentation for payments made from the bank account is not available.

I confirm that no other matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records.

I have no other concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
