Chair's report for Annual General Meeting on March 26th
2024 .
- Having just been elected as Chair I wanted to start by thanking Maureen Geddes for her hard work as Vice Chair and Chair over the last year. She has in concert with the other Trustees ensured that the hall has continued an upward trajectory despite some recent changes within the committee .
I would like to also thank all of the current Trustees for their hard work and commitment to making the village hall the continued success it is. I would also like to thank them now for the confidence they have shown in appointing me as the new chair of the committee .
Review of the year
- 2023 was an interesting , sometimes challenging year which included the implementation and completion of many projects .
The key projects were:
the installation of a new heating and hot water system ,
rearrangement of storage in backstage and bar areas
and refurbishment and painting in the large kitchen.
- We also installed a keypad entry system for our trusted regular hirers and
CCTV for extra security of the hall and it's users .
There were several changes to the members of our Management Committee , all of whom are Trustees of the Village Hall Charity, and we now have a committed band of people with many skills , experience and talents who stepped up when extra input was necessary.
There are also more volunteers who willingly assist in the running of the hall and its events. We have rationalised the format of our monthly meetings together with our financial arrangements and are ably assisted by a chartered accountant and a volunteer minute taker .

- We have also reviewed and amended the Articles of the Charity to better reflect the requirements of the Charity Commission as well as developed a Code of Conduct for Trustees to make sure we act within the code of conduct for Charities and its Trustees. As
part of the changes within the committee during the year we commissioned an Independent Audit of our accounts .
We have continued with the warm spaces initiative within the hall supported by grants, which ensure we provide a community for many existing groups and new and evolving opportunities .

Our planned events which included a Fun Quiz and many talented tribute acts , has established the hall as a very pleasant and comfortable place for everyone to come and enjoy themselves as well as helping with our finances and ongoing maintenance work .

We have established a now extensive list of patrons and are currently planning future events (and have already booked and/or are exploring others) for 2025. Finally, we have started our planning already for 2025 and will continue to seek opportunities to provide

a facility for community activities . We will also apply for grants and funding to maintain and develop the buildings facilities and resources .
