## **Chignals & Mashbury Village Hall Management Committee (registered charity number 301276)**

## **Trustees Annual report for the year ended 31[st] December 2021**

The charity was registered in May 1963 for the purpose of operating a village hall in Chignal St James to serve the parishes of Chignal and Mashbury in Essex.

The trustees are: Richard Marriage Tony Mawer James Steele

The trustees have reviewed the activities of the charity and consider that the meet the requirements of the Charity Commission public benefit test.

## **Activities in 2021**

Between the various covid lockdowns, the village hall managed to continue hosting various clubs including carpet bowls, table tennis, gardening and wine clubs. The local WI also meet in the hall and there is a monthly coffee morning where people can meet their parish councilors and sometimes the district councilor.

The hall is also hired out for events such as children’s and other parties, and occasionally wedding receptions.

## **Financial review**

The charity has this year made a surplus of £16773.99 (previous year £7113.68). During the year the charity carried out hall improvements costing £18,055, £16500 of which was covered by a restricted fund grant from Chignal Parish Council.

The surplus this year was helped by various covid grants that made up for the loss of income from the pandemic.

## **Risk Assessment, reserves and future plans**

The challenges of operating through a pandemic have now passed and the charity has closing unrestricted fund reserves of £51520.41. This is a very healthy position, amounting to over 7 years of operating costs.

As this is still a fairly new hall, apart from general maintenance and increasing electricity costs, there are no plans requiring any significant capital outlay.
