DORSET COUNTY FEDERATION OF YOUNG FARMERS, CLUBS
REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE COmMI￿FE
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 AUGUST 2024
Re
ort of the Count Chair
er50n
The 202312024 has been a fairly positive year for the county federation, with continued growth of our clubs,
nd a full calendar of events to keep the membership busy acr055 the year at both club and county level. Our
membership landed at 331 which was sllghtly down by 9 members with the biggest club Sherborne at an
amazing 77 member5. We have seen 3 few club5 in particular gain members including Gillingham and
Shaftesbury up to 58 members. Some clubs have become smaller.
Once the Club AGMS had all been completed in September 2023, we welcomed the new officers of the clubs
to the Officer Trainin8 Day at Kin8Ston Maurward College where we went through their rgles and
responsibilities for the upcoming year.
We then moved onto the Harvest Supper Season which saw S clubs hold thelr themed Harvest Supper
evenings thanking everyone who had been involved with the club over the year. Themes including Mamma
Miè IG & 51, 007 Isherbornel, Back to School (Marshwood Vale), Clarkson Farm (Beaminsterl and Lion KinB
IPuddletownl. All these evenings where fantastically put on with ama21ng food, drlnks and entertainment
put on by the clubs.
At the beginning of December, we saw one of the bigger Dorset YFC competitions with the Drama
Competitlon at Thoma5 Hardye Sch901 Theatre with 2 clubs competing to move onto the SWA round In
March. Puddletown YFC presented their version of the Lion Klng, and Beamin5ter presented Diddly Squat, we
also had a flller from Marshwood Vale YFC with Back to School and Gillingham and Shaftesbury YFC with
their A86A Danclng. The evening also held the final part of the Senlor Member of the year with the on-stage
interviews, with the results of Senlor Member of the Year, Junior Member of the year, Harvest Supper
Re5uIt5 and the evening competition results.
The new year commenced with the speaking competitions day with a vast array of competitions for our
member5 to participate in, includlng Bralnstrust, Junlor Reading, Junior Publlc Speakin& Situations Vacant,
Debating. The day was completely organised by Tracy, with plenty of competltors taking part it worked Ilke
clockwork. It wa5 lovely Io see 50 many new junior member5 taking part and it was reassuring that we have
some amazing speakers in Dorset YFC.
February saw Sports day at Thomas Hardye with Mlxed Senior Volleyball, Mixed Junior Dyno Crlcket and
some added extras of Senior Dodgeball and Junior Rounder5.
This yearfs SoLJth West Area weekenrj was held In Newquay in Cornwall. We had many members take the
journey to attend the weekend including some members who won the Dorset YFC round in speaking
competStions to compete on behalf of Dorset YFC. We saw the junior Readlng Team from Marshwood Vale
YFC take 2 place securing a place at the Nationèl YFC Comps Day. Joanna from Mar5hwood won the 16-22
SituatiOf15 Vacant Competition, with Bethany coming 3 in the 22.28 category. Marshwood Vale YFC also
competed in the 8ralnstrust and Gillingham and Shaftesbury in the Debating. Everyone who took part should
be very proud of themselves.
Our rally day took a quick change of venues at last minute due to the bad weather we had, with the ground
conditions being very saturated. The venue we moved to became a brilliant venue to h05t with plenty of
hard standing and shed space. Thank you to the Martin Family at Deveral Farm for supplying a venue at such
short notice. It was a j3m-packed day full of various competitions including handicraft5, cookery, trartor
drivin& Tug of War, Obstacle Course to name a few. It was a well-attended day with plenty of the
membership in attendance and all sharing the certificates and trophie5.
