Dorchester Community Nursery School Association Registered Charity No. 301124

Trustees ANNUAL REPORT to the Charity Commission for the year ending 31st August 2022.

The Association was inaugurated in September 1967, the constitution adopted on 30 November 1967 and since amended the un-incorporated Association became a Registered Charity in February 1969. Rules Governing Meetings of the Committee were adopted in February 1970 and since amended. The school is managed by a committee of elected officers and parent-members, trustees for the land, invited representatives and the Head Teacher and staff. We have provided safe and satisfying group play for the promotion of the education of preschool children of Dorchester and district since 1968.

Our school opened in the Moule Institute, Fordington, Dorchester on 21 April 1968. Building our own establishment began on 8 November 1968 on leased land. The first sessions there began on 1 May 1969. The current long lease runs from 26 June 1996. We continue to fulfil our aim during term-time, extended by offering supervision before school and lunchtime.

Now that we have moved on from the restrictions of Covid-19, the preschool has successfully held several fundraising events, such as the Summer Fair, which was well supported by parents old and new. With the funds raised, it has allowed for several maintenance jobs to be carried out, including planning for a new play frame. To help combat the cost-of-living crisis, new payment plans have been implemented for families who have been struggling to make the school fees.

Other changes in the setting have been around communication with parents, via the Tapestry app and 1:1 time with key workers. The staff have worked hard to create a set of School Values, which cover areas such as independence and teamwork, this has helped the children understand boundaries and how to work together to meet these values, as well as, giving parents some ideas on how to carry this on at home. Staff have continued to progress in CPD by undertaking several different courses, both remotely and in person.

We bank with NatWest, South Street, Dorchester. Our Independent Examiner is Casterbridge Hardy LLP, 53 Bowleaze Coveway, Weymouth, Dorset, DT3 6PL.
