Comrades Hall Management Commi1ee, Chairmans Annual Report 2024
It is with many thanks to all volunteers in the past that we are now fortunate to have an ecofriendly hall with solar panels and an air-source heat pump fi1ed. The play area has seen addiFonal play equipment and adult exercise equipment added on Bernards’ Place. Thus, providing a welcoming and updated community space both indoors and out in the centre of our village.
During the year, we have held two outside working group sessions on Bernards’ Place and one inside the Hall. These have been well supported by Commi1ee Members and indeed other villagers have turned up to support our efforts too which has been very much appreciated.
Our running costs for the year have been higher as we have dealt with the following: complying with Health and Safety and Fire regulaFons, which involved emergency exit signs and emergency lighFng updaFng, gu1er cleaning and roof repairs, increased insurance costs, trimming of lime trees and increased electricity charges. A new commercial cooker has also been purchased. On the cosmeFc side the Commi1ee agreed that aSer 38 years of service the Hall curtains should be replaced to give a brighter fresher look.
In support of all the ongoing costs the Commi1ee have been acFvely working towards supporFng the Hall funding by reinstaFng the 100 Club, thank you Sara Dyke and Margaret Wing. The film Club and Arts Reach also contribute to our funds. A table top Sale and Big Breakfast was organised and well supported. A further table top sale took place in March and a Barn dance will be held on the 11[th] May.
In view of the increased running costs, it has been necessary to raise the hire charges from the beginning of this month these have not changed in the last two years. There will be conFnued support for the coffee group and the mobile PO van, the local and discounted charges for the Brownies and Guides and all regular users will sFll be applied.
Looking forward, there are improvements to be made, the disabled parking area and car park needs to be updated and bins re-sited. Internal decoraFng works are also due.
Our Village Hall provides a wonderful space for so many different groups and acFviFes and it is important to be proud of this giS. It is not an easy task to manage, maintain and improve within the considerable restraint of rules and regulaFons that have become necessary in society today. The considerable rise in electricity costs and maintenance bills are indeed onerous. We are therefore very grateful for the ongoing financial support from our Parish Council.
I would like to thank all the commi1ee members for the commitment they have shown this year, parFcularly with hands on maintenance and fund raising, it has been a pleasure to work with you. I would parFcularly like to thank Jill for her many hours of support and meFculous a1enFon to detail and Karen who stepped up to take on the Treasurer role for the first Fme has been a gem. Without the support of these wonderful volunteers who give their Fme, experFse and enthusiasm to act as Trustees and serve on a Hall Commi1ee it would not be possible.
I also know that we are extremely fortunate to have Kirsty as our Booking Clerk, which has been confirmed with feedback that I have received from Hirers of the hall, and Mandy who has been cleaning our hall for many years. Thank you both.
Finally, without the support of our Village members who book the Hall and those who support and a1end all the events, it truly would not be possible.
