## **Yelverton War Memorial Recreation Field and Village Hall Trust Chairman’s Report for the year ended 31 December 2024**

I am pleased to report that finances remain in good shape enabling us to continue the ongoing programme of improvements to the Hall & Field. During 2024 we spent £4,734 more than our income; this was due to significant capital expenditure. Notably we refurbished the wooden floor, improved the outside lighting and installed a new heating and ventilation system for the toilets. We have updated the website, which now includes an automated booking system that is much easier for anyone hiring the hall for special functions. We are now able to provide fast fibre broadband for the users of the hall.

## **Solar panels**

During October 2023 we installed solar panels and battery storage. This cost us £16,585 after a Lottery Grant. 2024’s results show that this reduces our electricity bills by approximately 30% despite us boosting the heating of the toilets.

## **Field Projects**

Our ongoing thanks to Horrabridge Rangers for keeping the field & grounds in such good condition. Thanks also to the Tennis Club for maintaining the grass adjacent to the hard surface track from the lower gate up to the playing fields.

## **Tenants**

Yelverton Bowling Club and Yelverton Tennis Club continue their sporting activities during the year, and they continue to be excellent tenants. We are pleased that the Tennis Club has extended its lease for a further 21 years, until 31 December 2045.

## **Car Boot Sales**

Car boot sales continue to be held fortnightly in the summer months with the majority being managed by the Yelverton Bowling Club and some by the Rotary Club of Yelverton. 2024 was an improvement on the prior year as only 2 out of the 10 had to be cancelled due to bad weather.

## **Hall Usage - Bookings & Marketing**

The hall is in frequent use during the week. Children’s parties and other events are increasing year on year at the weekends.

**Chairman’s Report for the year ended 31 December 2024 (continued)**

## **Penmoor Nursery Pre-School**

We are delighted with the commitment and enthusiasm shown by Josie and Jen in their first year of running Penmoor.

## **“Friends of the Hall”**

This group continues to meet to improve the facilities. Thank you to all concerned.

## **Plans for 2025**

We intend to refurbish the ladies’ toilets in early 2025, for which grants of £4,000 have already been committed. The intention is then to refurbish the disabled toilets, and then the men’s toilets, as soon as funds permit.

## **Committee Membership**

I will be stepping down as Chairman at the 2025 AGM and I am delighted that Helen Ford and Alastair Cunningham have agreed to replace me.

Finally, a big thank you to all committee members and Friends of the Hall for their help and support throughout the year. It has been a real pleasure for me to work with such a strong team, who have always shown unlimited enthusiasm.

Thank you.

John Boston

2024 Chairman

## **Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees**

We report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31st December 2024, which are set out on Pages 5 to 7.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts; you consider that the audit requirement of Section 43(2) of the Charities Act 1993 (the Act) does not apply. It is our responsibility to state, on the basis of procedures specified in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under Section 43(7)(b) of the Act, whether particular matters have come to our attention.

## **Basis of independent examiner's report**

Our examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently we do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

In connection with our examination, no matter has come to our attention which gives us reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements

- to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 41 of the Act; and

- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with the accounting requirements of the Act.

have not been met; or to which, in our opinion, attention should be drawn to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
