THE NEW ROAD AREA COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION (NRACA)

MINUTES OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING & TRUSTEES REPORT – 27[TH] JUNE 2024: 7.30pm

MINUTES

(List of attendees in book)

1. Welcome – Chairperson, Jane Gourd

Welcome to all and to Cllr Chloe Myers of Teignmouth Town Council also in attendance.

2. Apologies - Cate Williams

John Polley (Probus)

3. Approval of Minutes of AGM ( 8[th] June 2023 )

4. Chair Report – Jane Gourd

The hall is currently used by over twenty regular groups & organisations each week. Some have be involved since the early days while others have joined us more recently. To name a few we have Over 50’s dance, stepping out dance, several different U3A courses, fitness groups, Red Rock Harmony, & even boot camp!

North Teignmouth church, table tennis, badminton, Bridge Club, both Probus Clubs, & WI are all long-term users. We have also had two events for the Teignmouth folk festival & the final of the Teignmouth Darts League in the past year.

In February we held a defib / CPR training session with seven of the bar team attending.

Our lovely hard working bar team volunteers have put on several events so far this year including a band night & a skittles evening. Future events include opening for the town air show & a cocktail evening in July. With more events planned for the Autumn including a Christmas Fayre with Father Christmas & our annual New Year’s Eve disco. A huge thank you to Charlie for looking after all the bookings & enquiries.

The bar goes from strength to strength - they hold a monthly draw for members as well as the discount at the bar. There is a big roll over currently as the winners have not been present at the time of the draw. Some newer members have joined the hardworking volunteers on the bar team.

During the past year we have had a remote heating controller fitted to the heating system. This means no more situations where users have either turned the temperature right down or worse still left it very high. Together with an overhaul of the whole system it is now working much more efficiently & bills have gone down.

We are still having a few problems with the roof & are looking to improve the cctv system. All the necessary safety inspections are up to date.

Our garden is looking lovely as usual thanks to another volunteer Martin of Countree.

We currently have 300 members. We are so lucky to have such a dedicated loyal team of volunteers who keep the hall running.

Special thanks go to our Secretary Cate & Peter our Treasurer for all their hard work on our behalf & all other members of the NRACA committee.

We could not run without you all, thank you. Jane Gourd, June 2024

5. Financial Report – Peter Williams

More stability over figures than previously. Year previously recorded £10K loss, now turned that into circa £3K surplus. Maintenance work undertaken with exception of the floor, next challenge which we will look at in due course.

Membership/bar takings up. Users of the hall for activities is up, good. Last year endured energy cost increases, but these are reducing and becoming more stabilised. Maintenance should now be at a minimum and now every day upkeep required.

Very happy with how things have gone, positive largely due to the work of the committee and the members, made my job easy. Healthy bank balance, reserves for the future and can see the foundations financially for this organisation are in an excellent place. Thanks to all involved. Expecting a positive year going forward.

6. Adoption of Accounts – Peter Williams

Agreed. Proposed by Martin Turner. Seconded by Avril Turnbull.

7. Appointment of Auditor/s – Peter Williams

Accountant – Greenwoods. Professional approach and submit our figures to the Charity Commission too, at a good cost, under £400 for looking after us. Recommend that we continue to use Greenwood Accountancy. Proposed by PW. Seconded by Nicky Constantine.

8. Election of Committee

Committee - outlining current membership. New rep due for WI to be identified. Martin Turner and PH propose committee continue en-block.

Helen Fitton to join Committee. Proposed Ben Petherick and seconded by Gary Foster. All agreed.

9. Election of Officers

9a Constitution

Update on proposed amendments given by Cate Williams and Jane Gourd. Consideration to change number required to hold future meetings, general view 15 required. Proposed by Avril Turner and seconded by PH. All agreed.

10. Group Reports

Avril Turnbull – Teignmouth Bridge Club. Amalgamated 3 into one. 20-30 people all involved with the RNH. Much in favour of the RNH.

Jane Gourd – Lady’s Probus came close to closing due to a lack of committee/numbers have reduced since Covid. Lucky to get 40 members present.

11. Church Report

North Teignmouth Community Church Report

Minister-in-Training

The church has appointed Ruth Ingrouille as Minister-in-Training, working part time at NTCC and studying part-time at Bristol Baptist College. Ruth officially started with us on 18 September 2023, and her induction service was on 15 October. She was keen to immediately get involved with pastoral visits to get to know members of the congregation. She led her first Sunday morning service on 1 October, and since then, has been leading services regularly, including the Christmas Day service. Her particular interest is in leading all-age services when Trinity students are with us, and also taking evening services in Trinity School chapel. We have all been blessed by Ruth’s enthusiasm and ability to present bible teaching in fresh ways. If any of you would like to get to know Ruth, you can come to any Sunday morning service at 10.30am at the Richard Newton Hall, or meet her at the Hub in Northumberland Place where she has her office.

Sunday morning services

Our regular Sunday morning services have also been led by our four elders, Andrew, Brian, John and Ray and by guest speakers. We held special services at Easter, Pentecost, Harvest, Remembrance Sunday, Safeguarding Sunday, and Christmas and preaching series on various books of the bible.

House-groups

These met in various homes for bible-study, prayer, fellowship, and friendship, in a more intimate and personal setting, where Sunday themes and preaching series could be explored in more depth.

Time-Out

Time-Out met twice a month on a Tuesday afternoon in the bar area for tea, coffee, cakes, quizzes, and board games, which provided an opportunity to socialise in a friendly and fun setting, and also to keep our minds active. Please contact John or Lorraine Kelly if you would like to know more.

Making-a-Difference

This ministry supports local families in times of need or financial crisis at this present, difficult time. Please contact Ray Hodgson if you know of any family in need.

Baby-Bank

This ministry, led by Nicky White, supports families with babies or toddlers, offering baby clothes, equipment and other items, Please contact Nicky if you know of any family that needs such support.

Tea and Lovely Cakes and Men’s Breakfast

Each of these events is intended for both fellowship and outreach, so all are welcome to come along or to bring guests. Please ask Judy Matthews or Andrew Fowler if you want to know more.

Messy Church

On the first Saturday of each month, around twenty children came to Messy Church, together with their parents or other carers. Activities included crafts linked to bible themes, a celebration time with bible stories and action songs, and a delicious cold buffet. Ruth has now assumed responsibility for planning and leading Messy Church, and she has already introduced many new ideas, with her characteristic energy and sense of fun. If you have children or grandchildren of primary school age you can bring them along to Messy Church on the first Saturday of each month from 4pm to 6pm.

Thank you to the Association for providing this lovely facility at the Richard Newton Hall and we would love to see any of you at our Sunday Morning worship services or at any of our regular events. God bless you all from North Teignmouth Community Church.

12. Close meeting followed by light refreshments
