The UW Iunit Management Teamlnrustees continued to ensure that the Unit
remained financially stable whilst att￿ same time investing in the growth and
development of the Unit.
BUILDING INVESTMENT
We obtained building control approval and fvll plannir8 permission to in5t811 an
additional fire exit with a concrete extemal ramp. The total was £6,408.31. We
have obtained a MSSC Premises Furbd Grant for 213rd of the cost and a grant of
£2.CW from The Bridge Trust (Bidefordl. The local Fire Officer tonfimied that
now enable Lbs to double the current fire limrt of 60 people to 120 people.
INVESTMENT IN 5ECURrtY
81anchard Security installed a 5 external camera CCIV system at our Unit
tomorrow to improve our site security at a cost of £1,140.￿).
Bideford Town Council have provided a grant to cover l(rfJ% of this cost.
INVESTMENT IN BOATING
We were awarded a grant from MSSC Inshore Boating for 213rd of the c05t to
purchase 8 kayaks arbd 2 canoes. The total cost was £5.802.28 with £1,971.76
paid from UMT fvnds.
We were also awarded a National Lottery Community Fund Grant of £9.578.
to enable u5 to purchase 2 new Jaffa (Rigiflex 3601 safety boats. with outboards
and one trailer at a cost of £10,333.01. The balance of £75S.Olwas paid from
UMT fvnds.
FIRST ASD. NAVIGATION. SEAMANSHIP AND CORE VALUES TEACHING AND
TRAINING
We have also invested a further £2,8￿ from UMT fund5 to purchase of the

Gold Resu5Cltation Training Kit (including 4 mini manikins. I child. I baby, I

The Unit gradually returned to r#)rmal activitie5 following the pandemic with
¢adet numbers increasing to 60 and the Unit retumirvx to operating two
eveni￿￿5 a week.
We successfully started a RMC detathment trial at the unit with staff currentlv
completing theirtraining ready to open the detachment to Cadets.
We had several successful days sailing rowing and kayaking this year thanks to
our move to Tamar lake5 the move to Tamar has given u5 the opportunity to go
boatirvJ any time we like and the cadets have benefited from this, our power

The Cadets enjoined a ships vi51tthis year to RFA Argus our affiliated ship the
visit when exceptionally well and they XO was empresse5 how respectful and
mature the tadets were so much they have been invited back 50 we are in the
process of arranging this. We had Cadets attènd 3 weekend at HMS Raleigh
with Iwracombe Unit and taster days on TS Royalist. During November 2021 we
took part in two Remembrance Day parades.
We have artively been running courses with Ilfracombe unit providing cadets
from both units with marine engineeri￿ Basic first aid. Intermediate first aid
and navigation. We have also holding been British heart foundation heart start
for junior cèdets and basic catering courses.
