Chairfs introdurtion 2024-25
As alway5.1 extend my sincere thanks to Claire Tobin. our Lead Volunteer, and to every member of
the Aspley Guise ScoLJt Group leadership team for their continued dedication to the provision of
outstandlng experiences for our young people. Thanks to their tireless efforts and willingness to
give up their time for free, our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers have continued to have many
opportunities to develop and hone a wide range of skills, and to make memorie5 that will last a
lrfetime. Thanks also to the Trustee Board, also volunteers, who have again ensured that our
facilities are well maintained and that we comply with all financial and regulatory requirements. I
also want to express my gratitude to the many other people who worked behind the scenes thls
year to support the leaders in delivering their impressive programmes. Wlthout all these
volunteers, the group could not succeed. and we really do appreciate all that they do.
As I mentioned at the last AGM, Trustee Board members are now limited in the time they can
serve as trustees. So now, more than ever. we need to identify the volunteers that will replace us in
the future. Please give some thought to offing your services to the group as a Trustee Board
member. Even the smallest contribution of time will be valuable, and you will be helping to
assure the security and long-term future of this vibrant group. I can be contacted vla the email
address below If you have any questions.

Group Scout Leader Report 2024-25
My first full year as Group Lead Volunteer is also the first year of our new titles and a new database
learning system. Scout meetings continue in the normal way and behind the scenes managers are
buried into their laptops trying to understand the new ways of processing DBS'S, delivering training
and support. I know it will be better soon....
Our Membership numbers increased slightly this year with our annual census showing 136 plus a
growing Explorer Unit of @ 30 members. We have welcomed new leader5 to our team and our
trustee board. Our Leaders continue to embrace their training and this year Lance, Simon B, Simon C
and Andy finished their wood badge training through the old system, and with a few new modules to
complete online, will be fully wood badged this term.
The groups are active in the community and we continue to support the Shoe Aid charity suppllng
footwear to people in need in the UK. All our sections enjoy camping and residentials, thanks to the
dedication of our leadership team who deliver excitin& progressive experiences for our Young
People. I think the word is out that Scouting is challenging and fun, as we have regular enquiries
from potential new members at Scout & Explorer levels. There has been talk of difficult behaviour in
schools and we do see a change in levels of respect from our members. The discussions in their
Scout Forums of scout values and expectations of themselves and our leaders generally improves
behaviour and morale.
At the AGM Davinia, Dan and I were presented with certificates for our roles or in Davinia's case 15
years of volunteering. We also said a sad Farewell to Catherine who has been a Trustee, Leader and
Akela over a period of 10 years. Catherine steps down from these roles but continues to asslst with
administration of the group. The Cub Section moves forward with Rachel as it5 Leader and an
enthusiastic team to support her.
We are progressing with Improvements to the Scout Hut. This is very exclting and we will ensure that
the safety of our members and parents is paramount whilst work is being done.
We are delighted to have a full team of Trustees led by Maria Wishart, twenty leaders and some very
helpful parents to support us. Our remit is to develop young people into better citizens through
teamwork, challenges, fun and adventure; I thank every one of those volunteers who make this
scouting achievement possible.

The Cub Forums have continued to focus the Cubs on how their behaviour affects others and helps
with leadership skills when planning their own cub nights.
Regular attendance and their enthusiasm to earn Activity and Challenge Badges leads to the Chief

challenge that we offer. We are pleased that so many of our Cubs move up to scouts with this
award.
Many thanks to our parents who have offered enthusiastic support this year,. it makes a real
difference. We sald a sad Fairwell to our Akela, Catherine Ellis, at Christmas but we do have

SCOUTS"
Scout Section Report 2024-25
The Scouts have had another action-packed year, with two full troops meeting weekly and running a
joint programme filled with adventure. challenge, and skill development. We've continued to strike a
balance between traditional Scouting skills and fresh, engaging activities that work towards badge
requirements and personal grovrth.
Throughout the year, Scotsts worked on badges including Survival, Navigator, Electronics, Fire Safety,
DIY, Creatlve Challenge, and the World Challenge Award. This wlde-ranging programme involved
activities such as fire safety drills, open fire cookin& electronScs projects, catapult building, incident
hikes, wide games, and map reading. Scouts got hands-on wlth tools during DIY sessions. tested their
creativity through sculpture and model-making, and engaged with global cultures and values during
World Challenge actlvlties.
The Scouts enjoyed several memorable outings and events. Highlights included a visit to MK Stadium.
a swim party at Woburn Lido, a nlght hike through the local countryslde, and an excltlng watersports
session in Bedford. Our St. Geor8e's Day celebration brought the whole section together, and termly
cooking competitions were as fun (and messy) as ever.
Camping remained a core part of the programme. We ran a summer survlval weekend at Bromham.
giving Scouts a chance to build shelters, cook outdoors, and put their survival skills to the test. In the
autumn, many Scouts attended the Halloween-themed Gilwell Scarefest camp, and the older Scouts
took part in a two day backpacking expedltion to complete their Expedition Challenge award.
As ever, none of thls would be possible without the dedicated team of volunteer leaders who brlng
energy, creativity, and conslstency to the programme each week. We also thank the parents who
stepped in to help with transport, supervision, and support for trips and camps.
The 2024-2025 year has been full of laughter, learnin& and leadershlp development. The Scouts
have embraced every challenge and come away with new skills and lasting memories. We look
forward to seeing what next year brings.
