Steeple Morden Village Hall

Registered Charity No. 300421

Annual Trustees' Report for the year to 31[st] March 2021

Address: 29 Hay Street Steeple Morden Royston Hertfordshire SG8 0PD Trustees: Keith Austin (Chair & Acting Treasurer) Chris Austin Jenny Elder David Holt Diane Knight Mike Smith (Secretary) Celia Upchurch Harriet Walmesley

Purpose and area of benefit:

The village hall serves the community of Steeple Morden and surrounding villages, providing a venue for meetings, classes, parties and entertainment.

Performance in the year:

The year from April 2020 to the end of March 2021 was exceptional, being dominated by the Covid-19 pandemic. This forced the hall to close for a significant part of the year.

Fortunately costs are fairly low while the hall is unused. Support as a place of hospitality was also available, and this provided a substantial boost to funds. Without this support the hall would have made a small loss.

The hall was in a strong position financially going into this year, having continued the policy of holding approximately one year's income in reserves.

Following a financially successful year, the trustees aim to continue with various renewals and improvements to the hall so that it continues to be a useful and popular place for all the community to use.

Trustees are recruited from the local community, by word-of-mouth recommendation. The committee is short of trustees and efforts are always being made to encourage people to join and help in running the hall.

The village hall has no employees.

Mike Smith (Secretary) 8[th] November 2021
