**NFYFC PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE**

From my first days as a member of Newton St Cyres YFC to now serving as NFYFC’s President, being part of this organisation has truly made a difference in my life.

There’s something very special about being part of the YFC family – it gives you an instant network of contacts across the country, and in my case, the world, simply by being a member.

You very rarely need to ask twice for help; someone will always have your back. I have personally been grateful for the support I have received over the years.

That spirit of support extends far beyond YFC itself, reaching into our rural communities and the wider agricultural industry — making a difference on an even greater scale.

Recently, we shared the social value of Young Farmers’ Clubs. Your activities generate £4.51 in social good for every £1 NFYFC invests – adding up to over £10 million in value for people and communities.

Club and county officers should feel incredibly proud of that achievement. It highlights how, as volunteers, you are creating safe, supportive environments for young people while also benefiting the communities you serve.

The many acts of kindness delivered by YFCs make a real difference — not only for those receiving support, but also for those giving it. Volunteering is a powerful force for good, offering meaningful rewards to everyone involved.

As NFYFC begins its journey towards its centenary in 2032, I encourage you to start recording your acts of kindness so we can showcase the impact YFCs make when we celebrate 100 years. We already know how much we do to support others — now it’s time to shout a little louder about the difference we make.

Congratulations on everything you have achieved over the past membership year. Let’s continue to aim high as we move towards our centenary. We have so much to celebrate – and so much more we can do to demonstrate the positive impact of our organisation.

## **COUNTY PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE**

Dear Young Farmers,

It has been an honour and a privilege to be your President over the last few years.

I became President Elect just before the Covid pandemic. It was great to see how Young Farmers kept in contact through zoom meetings and doing challenges like the toilet roll challenge. Coming out of Covid it has been lovely to see Young Farmer Clubs grow from strength to strength with the help of both past and present members with the future in mind.

I have enjoyed attending YFC events, judging competitions and even cleaning the trophies! Watching the County being so successful at all levels and at National is wonderful. Well done!

I wish all Young Farmers members, past, present and future, all the best and continued success at all levels.

Thank you,

## **Nicky Morton**

**COUNTY CHAIR REPORT**

Good evening everyone.

When I first stepped into the chairmanship, I knew we had a busy year ahead— but looking back now, I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved.

Behind the scenes, we’ve made some serious progress in strengthening the foundations of our Federation. We’ve completed a full clean, audit, and valuation of our trophies, Louise has worked tirelessly with our website designer to get our Rally website up and running, and we’re now well on the way to launching our county website too.

And although I was worried it could have caused Gillian to end her time with us as treasurer, Gillian has finally managed to set us up with a new bank and accounting system. This change has not only saved us money but will also make our county run more efficiently as well.

These improvements might not always be visible on the surface, but they’re the kind of work that ensures this county is future-proofed and ready to grow with the times. And that’s just the start—there’s been so much more happening across committees, clubs, and events, and every bit of effort has helped make this year one of real progress.

Our social calendar has been packed with unforgettable moments, up there in my personal favourites are the tractor road runs hosted by Edgcott and Princes Risborough. We have also had various Christmas tree collections, a ploughing match, club rambles and club trips away as well.

One standout event was of course our 80th year celebrations held at Creslow Manor. It was truly an honour to be stood amongst all the previous Chairmans, Presidents and even a previous County Organiser. And it made me think that in 10 or 20 years time I will wait hopefully for the day we all get invited back for the next big anniversary of this county.

And of course, last but by no means least, was our Michaelmas Ball. Sophie took the lead with this event and pulled together an unforgettable evening that did a truly brilliant job of wrapping up the events of this year.

We’ve also flown the Buckinghamshire flag high at both South East Area and National competitions. From flower arranging and member of the year to public speaking and tug of war, the members stepped up with determination and represented our little county remarkably. And I really hope it has been inspiring to other members to come forward and represent our county as well.

Obviously, there is one highlight of the year which we all share, Rally. This year, it was hosted by Princes Risborough, and what an amazing job they did. I want to give a big shout-out to Will Lacey, who took on the role of Rally Chairman with incredible dedication and drive. From the moment planning began, Will and his team poured their hearts into making the day a success—and it showed. It was a true celebration of everything that makes Young Farmers special: community, competition, and a lot of chaos. So, thank you to everyone who helped set up, took part, or just came along to support.

Before I finish, I obviously have a lot of thank you’s to make. So firstly Louise, thank you for doing exactly as your job title says as our County Organiser and keeping me organised throughout the year. Sophie, my Senior Vice Chair, you really have been my right-hand woman from day one, so thank you for all your effort you have put in this year. Amy, my Junior Vice Chairman, Gillian our Treasurer, Holly our Competitions Secretary, and Nicky our County President and of course the rest of the county committee this year—thank you all for your hard work and commitment you have all put in.

And to everyone who’s turned up to our Club Officers and Exec meetings throughout the year—thank you for your contributions to the running of our county. Your input and ideas have helped shape everything we’ve achieved this year.

As I hand over the reins to Sophie, I do so with full confidence that this Federation is in safe hands and I can’t wait to see where you take us next. Lastly, I will say, there’s so much potential in this room, so if anyone is considering yourself for a county role, then I recommend doing it, because you won’t regret it.

Thank you for trusting me, for challenging me, and for making this year unforgettable. It has been an absolute privilege.

Here’s to the future of Buckinghamshire Federation of Young Farmers clubs

Thankyou

## **COMPETITIONS REPORT**

Having written a few of these BFYFC competition reports by now, I feel like this must surely be the biggest yet, and the fun hasn’t stopped yet! By the time the AGM comes around, 8 of our members (including juniors, intermediates and seniors) would have just returned from stockjudging at the English Winter Fair, no doubt with some results to be proud of! This tops off a brilliant year of stockjudging, including six members competing at South of England Show and also two members showing South Devons at The South Devon National Show, held at the Moreton-in-Marsh Show.

Aside from stock, we’ve also seen some great results throughout 2024-2025 in a variety of other competitions including junior reading, Junior Member of the Year, netball, junior tug of war, rounders, fencing and football to South East Area level and After Dinner Speaking, Senior Member of the Year, floristry and mens tug of war to national finals.

Following on from 2023-2024’s successes, it became apparent to me that our county is driven by the chance to compete against each other. Therefore, this year I introduced the inaugural round of the Perpetual Inter-club Trophy that will be awarded at the AGM to the club (or junior and senior team of clubs) that have won the most points at non-rally competitions throughout the year. Whether that's at Area-qualifying competitions such as Member of the Year or one-off events such as pool night, all these points have been added together to show that clubs who simply turn up to everything, will most likely get the bragging rights after! Our junior reading was the most competitive competition this year, with juniors from Winslow Countrysiders, Princes Risborough and Aylesbury Juniors all taking part in the county round of Junior Reading. Even quizzes, netball and football earned clubs points, alongside the usual competitions such as stockjudging, showing that there is a competition for everyone and that we can all contribute to our clubs success outside of rally. Because this report will be shared at the AGM, I can now share the following summary:

- Team Winslow (Edgcott and Winslow and Winslow Countrysiders) excelled in Public Speaking, stockjudging and simply turning up!

- Princes Risborough (juniors and seniors) had their best performance in pool, quizzing (and of course, rally!)

- Aylesbury juniors are the ones to watch next year with junior reading

- With Soph as county chair next year, I’m sure that we’ll see Newport Pagnell make their way onto the podium, with Buckingham hot on their heels to prove what they’re made of.

A breakdown of the results is here*:

Finally, the best day of competitions in any BFYFC year is of course, rally. This year, Princes Risborough, their advisory and reliable rally committee put in unwavering commitment to building a fantastic day of competitions, and all their

work paid off because PR managed to hold onto their winning title on home territory. Well done PR! And that win was on top of the added pressure from the first year of us implementing the improved scoring system to combine junior and senior clubs. This made the day even more competitive, and I’m sure made PR’s win even sweeter.

I look forward to seeing where we go next year as a county. Will we see Team Winslow facing competition for the Perpetual Inter-club trophy? Will PR be knocked off their rally winning streak at Sophie’s home rally at NP? As long as all of you members continue to put in the time and energy to practice and compete in all competitions; whether that’s a quiz night or travelling across the country for tug of war finals, then this county will be in safe hands. And we must make sure to look after Louise and the many volunteers, of whom there are too many to mention, who provide stock, steward and judge all of the competitions so that we can enjoy the fun bit – competing.

Thanks for having me, and I’ll look forward to seeing you all in our over-sized white stockjudging coats!

## **STATUTORY DECLARATION:**

The Federation is constituted as an Unincorporated Association and governed by its constitution adopted on 12[th] November 2021.

## The charity’s charitable objectives are:

To advance the education of young members of the public at large in their knowledge of agriculture, crafts, life skills, rural affairs and country life, and

In the interests of the social welfare of such members to provide and promote the provision of facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupations, being facilities which will improve their conditions of life and will assist in the development of their spiritual and mental capacities, self-reliance and individual responsibility so that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of the community.

They are achieved by County and Clubs hosting varied programmes and meetings encompassing all areas, carrying out community and fundraising work, member training and through our annual Country Show and Rally which is open to the public.

The charity recruits its members from a significant section of the community at large. Everyone aged 10 to 28 years old can be a member of the Federation in order to participate in activities and discussions that increase their knowledge of agriculture, crafts, rural affairs and country life and help them acquire skills for life. The charity actively recruits its members, aged 10 to 28 years, from within Buckinghamshire and its borders. The County and club activities also contribute to and create leisure activities for members and on occasion for the rural community in which the charity operates. The community around the charity benefits from our members being active citizens that contribute to the rural community.

The Trustees confirm that they have paid due regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit in deciding what activities the charity should undertake.

## **GRANTS/OTHER FUNDING** :

The NFU granted us £650 towards our mental wellbeing pack project, this enabled us to buy the tote bags to give to each member that will contain a variety of resources to help with mental wellbeing and member training. A private donor also gave us a grant of £630 so that we could buy each member a copy of the Farm Safety Foundations ‘Little Book of Minding Your Head’ to be included in the packs. Several other companies donated hats to us as part of this project.

## **Mrs Mary Stacey**

Mrs Mary Stacey sadly passed away earlier this year. Mary was a County Life Vice-President and life-long supporter of Bucks FYFC both at Club and County level, most notably becoming the Federation’s first ever female County Chair in 1956 . We are grateful for Mary’s support and friendship to many over the years.
