NFYFC PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
It was an honour to be elected as your President for a second year – even if I did have to experience another online election due to pandemic restrictions.
Despite not being able to see you all in person at this year’s Annual General Meeting, I still enjoyed chairing the event and hearing some lively debate from YFC members. And such great news that you voted to extend the upper membership age by another two years – even longer for people to enjoy the benefits of YFC.
Being your President has extended my time in YFC just that little bit longer too, which I am extremely grateful for – and especially so during the 90th year of our national federation.
There are so many stories, like mine, from people whose lives have been transformed over the past nine decades, thanks to the skills and friendships they gained in YFC. Long may that continue.
As we look ahead, the industry faces huge challenges with changes in agricultural policy, new international trade deals and the climate change debate. YFC gives the next generation the chance to get their voices heard on these issues, and I hope you all grab those opportunities with both hands. Your future in agriculture counts on it.
The pandemic has cast a shadow over all our lives and many of you will have faced your own personal battles or tragedies throughout this difficult period. Living remotely in rural locations has only exacerbated loneliness during lockdowns and made us all realise the importance of our YFC get togethers.
Well done to all those clubs and counties that moved activities to an online format during lockdowns, your time and creativity was a huge support to many. And a big pat on the back to all those who have organised safe meetings again for their members and are encouraging more people to join (or re-join) the organisation. Your hard work will ensure YFC remains a constant in our lives.
It is reassuring to see competition finals and training are happening in person again, social events and fundraisers are being organised, and more people are appreciating all that YFC has to offer.
NFYFC might be 90, but its enthusiasm for supporting and developing rural young people has never wavered since it first began in 1932.
Let’s all play our part in making YFC even bigger and better this membership year and protecting what we love for future generations.
Nigel Owens MBE
NFYFC President 2021-2
COUNTY PRESIDENT’S REPORT
It has been a pleasure and an honour to be your County President. We all had so many hopes for 2021, but it has been another challenging year for Bucks Young Farmers as a result of Covid. It is so good to see that Clubs are now meeting up in person. Zoom served a purpose during the Lockdowns, but there is no substitute for being able to meet up face to face and we certainly don’t take it for granted anymore after the last 18 – 20 months.
The County Meetings have also started up again and it has been great to hear how all the Clubs are doing. The Junior Clubs seem to be thriving with lots of new members, which is fantastic. The Senior Clubs are finding it harder to bring the members back to the levels prior to the pandemic, but this is the case throughout the whole Country.
National have provided resources to help Clubs restart and also promote the amazing organisation that Young Farmers is, so these will help, along with the increase of the age limit to 28. Also, the advisory and Vice Presidents are always there to encourage you and be supportive of your ideas, so use them if you need them, they will love to help.
Looking forward, although the organisation of next year’s Rally is still in its early stages, the plan is to hold it on Saturday 28[th] May 2022. Aylesbury hope to hold it at Waddesdon, but this will be confirmed in the coming weeks. The Rally is a real focal point in the County Calendar. Not only does it showcase Young Farmers, but it brings the past and current members together and hopefully encourages new members– good luck to Aylesbury.
Your very enthusiastic County Chairman, James Nixey has been working hard as usual, running the County with Sam Smith, his Vice. They have also worked hard together at Risborough, who have come through the pandemic in good shape. A big thank you to both James and Sam for everything they have done for County over the last couple of years. James is not only busy with Club and County, he is also the Vice Chairman of the Membership and Marketing Steering Group at National - well done James.
A massive thank you must go to Louise Brooke, who has been so understanding during these Covid times. We are pleased to say that Louise is now back to her normal hours and is there whenever you need help and advice – she is an amazing County Administrator.
One final thanks must go to the Management Committee who have been working behind the scenes, keeping the County on track throughout the pandemic. We held zoom meetings and met up in Gillian’s garden when allowed – thanks for hosting us Gillian and thanks for all the cake which James and I seem to polish off every time.
I am sure 2022 will see Bucks Young Farmers bringing new members in by showing them what a brilliant and fun organisation Young Farmers is. Don’t forget County are always here for you, so please speak to one of us if you need any help. Here’s to a successful 2022 for all the Clubs in BFYFC.

COUNTY CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
I think it’s fairly safe to say it’s been a year absolutely jam packed with frustration and disappointment. Having said that, after yet another testing year, I’m proud of the grit and determination shown by everyone involved in Buckinghamshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs.
We started the year with our first ever virtual AGM, in the midst of another covid lock down, but as soon as Boris said open, many clubs opened, even if it was only for a handful of meetings. We definitely have a renewed interest in us as an organisation and new members have begun to flood in, whilst with the recent age increase meaning we have retained the existing members.
With everything seemingly returning to normal recently, it’s great to see the clubs back up and running, some stronger than ever. As this difficult chapter becomes history and hopefully draws to a close, I’d like to thank everyone who helped and guided me throughout, with a special thank you to those involved in the Covid Response Committee.
James Nixey
County Chairman 2020-2021
STATUTORY DECLARATION:
The Federation is constituted as an Unincorporated Association and governed by its constitution adopted on 12[th] November 2021.
The charity’s charitable objectives are:
To advance the education of young members of the public at large in their knowledge of agriculture, crafts, life skills, rural affairs and country life, and
In the interests of the social welfare of such members to provide and promote the provision of facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupations, being facilities which will improve their conditions of life and will assist in the development of their spiritual and mental capacities, selfreliance and individual responsibility so that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of the community.
They are achieved by County and Clubs hosting varied programmes and meetings encompassing all areas, carrying out community and fundraising work, member training and through our annual Country Show and Rally which is open to the public.
The charity recruits its members from a significant section of the community at large. Everyone aged 10 to 28 years old can be a member of the Federation in order to participate in activities and discussions that increase their knowledge of agriculture, crafts, rural affairs and country life and help them acquire skills for life. The charity actively recruits its members, aged 10 to 28 years, from within Buckinghamshire and its borders. The County and club activities also contribute to and create leisure activities for members and on occasion for the rural community in which the charity operates. The community around the charity benefits from our members being active citizens that contribute to the rural community.
The Trustees confirm that they have paid due regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit in deciding what activities the charity should undertake.

NFYFC recently carried out an audit of all Counties and assessed them on nine areas including Governance, Safeguarding, Programming and activities, Finance, Members, Staff and so on. We were awarded their green welly standard in all areas, meaning we are working to a good standard generally, with opportunities to gain gold wellies (standard of excellence) in the future.
