Chairman’s Report for 2020
2020 was the Year dominated by the Covd19 pandemic with the Centre closed for most of the year. Thankfully I had joined Community First Oxfordshire, which gives advice to Village Hall and Community Centres, towards the end of 2019. They have provided a lot of information on how to keep the Centre safe and as to when Groups were able to return.
This has meant that our AGM has not been held within the time specified in the Constitution ie by 30[th] April. On checking the Charity Commission web site, as there was a legitimate reason for the delay, this is in order and a note should be made in the Minutes.
I would like to thank Muriel, our Treasurer and Sumi our Secretary for the work done during the year.
The Centre had a high level of usage prior to Lockdowns and at the present time we have 27 different groups registered.
As you will see from the Accounts income from the Hire of the Centre is reduced. A decision was taken at the start of the Pandemic not to charge if groups were unable to use the Centre and in some cases refunds were made for those paying in advance.
We had been lucky in obtaining Grants from the Government, totalling over £11,000, in respect of the Business Shutdown Scheme, which has replaced this lost income.
Repairs the entrance to the Car Park were carried out and also the untidy hedging in front of the building removed and tarmaced over to provide more parking.
A gardener continues to be employed on a regular basis and I think you will all agree there has been an improvement in the look of the property. The overgrown hedge on the Patio Area has been trimmed, which has given more space, and generally tidied with thanks to Daniel Bell. We need to consider whether to upgrade this area for it to be a selling point for hirers.
The Deeds to the property have now been registered at the Land Registry and the final Solicitors bill was £2,171. This will now enable us to apply to the Local Council for possible grants in the future.
I thank all the users of the Northcourt Centre for their continued support. The centre is a great asset to the local community. However for this to continue we do need some more volunteers at the top to take an active roll with the day to day running of the Centre.
