Activities and Achievements during 2021
Another Covid year bringing us different challenges working with restrictions and with and without Lockdown thro the course of the year and keeping the Hall operational.
The fencing round our Tennis Courts collapsed at the beginning of the year making the 2 courts unuseable. This became our major project for the year to refence the courts and to clean and refurbish the court surface. This became a community project as the local community were keen for the courts to re-open.
The total cost was £19.6k and people donated via our Justgiving page raising £1.6k. We set up a strawberry sta on the Park selling strawberries from our local farm which was a great success as it was at the time when you co start to meet people outside so it became an outing for local residents especially the older people and raised £2 We also obtained 2 grants from Berkshire Community Foundation of a total of £4k. So the net cost to the Park was £11.5k
It was a fabulous community project which brought people together as well as being and urgent project which th Park needed to undertake.
The courts re-opened in July and we now are registered with the LTA and use the Clubspark automated booking system which is a great success. Use has increased and the courts look much improved.
The other community activity we undertook was to host Watermill Theatre for an Open Air Theatre event in August as part of their for 1 night only outreach tour to Village Halls around Berkshire. Normally this takes place in the Hall, however, this year due to Covid it was an outdoor event. The Sports club kindly allowed us to use the Leas ground to host the evening and a new venture was launched. 100 tickets for "The Hound Of the Baskerville
theatre evening were snapped up within 9 days of our online booking office opening. People were very keen to c as it was an outdoor event during the gradual easement of Covid restrictions with a theatre performance locally. The English summer weather nearly held out for the performance with only a little drizzle at the end.
We also undertook a major maintenance project on the Park with the help from members of the Sports Club we renewed all the tired old signage round the Park & buildings.
