## **Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 October 2025**

The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 October 2025. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts.

## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES**

## **Objectives and aims**

The charity’s objectives are to maintain and operate a village hall, as a safe meeting place for villagers and local organisations/groups where activities take place for physical, recreational and social development.

## **Public benefit**

The trustees have regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit. The trustees always ensure the activities of the charity are undertaken in line with our charitable objectives and aims.

## **ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE**

During the past year we have seen good use of the hall, both with our regular hirers, private bookings and functions run by the committee.

Considerable maintenance has been carried out to the building, mainly brought about by some flooding issues. We have an entirely new floor and new drainage around the outside of the building to try to prevent a reoccurrence of water ingress.

We saw a welcome return to the annual Gala following a gap of several years, which was a huge success and followed this with the equally successful Food Fest. Another highlight of our year is the pensioners Christmas lunch which as always was prepared and served in a very professional manner.

Within the governance area we are undertaking a review of our policies to remain up to date.

The accounts show a small drop in our income, which can mainly be attributed to the period following the flooding when the hall was temporarily unusable.

It has become apparent from the years accounts that our regular hirers do not cover our fixed costs, and that we are heavily reliant on our occasional hirers and our in-house functions. It has been decided to raise the hourly hire rates to remedy this situation.

Our fixed costs have risen sharply due mainly to increased cost of utilities.

We have seen a period of stability with the committee, which now I feel has a good balance of interests. This has allowed decision making in a structured fashion. To add to the positivity, two of our members were featured in a daily newspaper article.

Looking ahead to the next year I predict the utilization of the hall will remain high and that our financial state will be secure.

Finally, I would like to thank all the committee members for their dedication and hard work keeping this charity operational. I would also thank all the hard-working bar staff, without whom we would not be able to operate. In addition, I would like to thank our fantastic extra volunteers from the village who help on the day with events, and last but not least our sponsors.

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**

## **Financial position**

The general fund decreased during the year by £24,843 which was transferred to general reserves.

## **Reserves Policy**

It is the policy of the charity to hold sufficient funds in reserve to cover the general running costs of the charity for period of 6 months without further incoming resources.

## **Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Bedford U3A**

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (the Trust) for the year ended 31 October 2025.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
